The Democrat philosophy summed up perfectly!!!!!

My family prospered during the Carter administration. They didn't like him at the time, but they look at him through a much different lense now. At that time, they were able to lay the foundation for a very successful career and portfolio they ultimately built.
Your family must have been bankers, getting wealthy on 36% credit card interest rates and 25% car loans.

Wish I was that clever..just lucked into it.

Seriously...I do think more average Americans are running for office. Some of these Hispanic candidates sound terrific. I actually think there are some real good people on Capitol Hill, we just see and hear the loudmouths and tenured

My father had to take shelter in the American Embassy in Santiago for 7 days. Carter decided that the Chileans were war criminals after Pinochet kicked out the Communists. He crashed the Chilean economy and when they took to the streets looking for American businessmen,I almost became fatherless at the age of 3. Glad your family prospered though.

Well as a Yalie I have no doubt that he would revolt at Harvard rule. But in all seriousness what a beautiful human being. He and PJ O Rourke are both terribly missed.
Pundits with brains are currently in very short supply, no? 😉

Happy for your family, what business are/were they in?

My family struggled through the Carter years like most did, I was young so I didn't know any different but I do remember my mom being pretty upset when dad told her they would have to hold off on building the house they had saved up for.

Not political in any sense, but my favorite columnist is still Dave Barry with The Miami Herald and he is no spring chicken either

If you’ve never checked him out, I would recommend Bill Torpy of the AJC. Think of a more liberal Lewis Grizzard. 50% of the time you may want to reach through the phone/tablet/paper and choke him. But he’s extremely honest and really humorous. You might just have to wade through some of the articles because many of them are about issues related to Atl/ or GA politics.

Sorry your family went through a tough time.

I have seen several nearby variants to the general effect that people who desire power are precisely the people we should not wish to have it
One idea that has always intrigued me is a proposal to select our leaders via a lottery similar to jury duty. Your name gets picked from a giant fishbowl…..congratulations, your off to Congress for a single term!!!
May the odds ever be in your favor

We rarely agree, but I’m 100% with this idea.
