Reactions to Vols Living Outside Vol Country

I wear my orange camo hat with a white Power T everywhere I travel. It's a great way to find fellow Vols or to start a conversation. Vol or not, most people view us favorably, even when talking to rival SEC fans.

BTW - Just getting back from China... Guess which website is blocked there... Yep. No VolNation for a week! Trying to get caught up today! :) China hates us too!

On a return trip from Montana, I walked into the airport in Kalispell and a baggage handler spotted my Tennessee orange fleece jacket. Without my saying a word, he stated "you guys are a long way from home." I find that our uniquely recognizable colors convey our afilliation long before verbal communication is initiated.

Speaking about the poster who saw some fellow Vols in Israel, I was with my family in northeast Australia deep in the rainforest at a small lodge where the paved road runs out. We heard a couple of guys playing their guitar and singing in the TV room of the hotel (no other televisions for miles around). My son, 14 at the time, had on an Orange shirt with a 16 on it. When we saw the two guys, they stopped singing and told us they were from Knoxville and were UT students. From time to time in Queensland, we heard Go Vols from the Aussies. Paint the world Orange!

I wear a Tennessee lanyard for my ID badge..so I am sporting it a lot. I don't get many comments because it's Florida, so many fair weather transient fans.

I live in NE Arkansas and an Alabama fan made fun of my UT t-shirt and mumbled something under his breath. I got back at him when I asked him for a refill of my Diet Dr. Pepper and he was forced to say "my pleasure" since he works a cash register at Chik fil-a. True story.

Wife and I were in Israel last week of March/first week of April last year. One day in Jerusalem, we encountered about 75 or so Israeli soldiers. They were in a group but apparently resting near the old city. I was wearing a white cap with an orange power T on the front. Suddenly, I heard, "GO VOLS!" followed by another guy yelling, "TENNESSEE." I went over to them and discovered that they were American Jews who had volunteered to serve a couple of years in the Israeli army. Never thought I would meet any TN fans who were in Israeli army, but it was a pretty cool experience.

I was there about a month earlier. I don't remember if I saw any Tennessee fans or not. To be honest, I'm so used to seeing Vol fans everywhere I go that it's not that surprising or memorable when it happens.

I did buy a t-shirt in Jerusalem that has a big orange power T and says University of Tennessee in Hebrew.

I live in Overland Park, Kansas. I grew up in Tennessee and my whole family here bleeds orange. Shockingly, there is an alumni club here that gets together to watch all the games at the local Coach's Bar and Grill. I wear a little orange everyday and I get an occasional go vols or GBO!

Some of my worst "drives home" were from a Saturday afternoon meeting of the S. Florida Alumni Association in conjunction with a certain team playing football. It was nearly 45 miles. Thank goodness all FTP.

I have worn my colors all over the world. I agree with the poster that said to tone it down a bit. I usually wear a UT polo style shirt or my favorite is a black C&B windshirt with the power T. I wear it so much that I don't even think about the T. One time I was in Seattle walking down the street and someone passing says Go Vols! They kept walking and I couldn't figure out for a while who recognized me until I realized the power of the power T. Most often in far away places like California or other foreign lands, people want to come up and talk about the Vols. One guy in Cali came up at a street fair and wanted me to know he had been to a game in Neyland many years ago and what a great experience he had. I can say the power T get a lot of respect world wide.

1. Someone wearing all UT paraphernalia or any school's for that matter not on game day looks ridiculous. Kinda not right in tha head.

2. I was sitting in an airport in Baltimore and a guy from Cali walked up and told me he that TB went to the same HS he did. TB was going into his Sophomore year.

It was a joke man. Get over it. My mother taught me plenty of manners thank you. If you take the time to write that this is inappropriate, I'm sure I will be able to look back in your post history and find you were in absolute outrage over some of the other stuff posted on this board much worse than this. I guess you've never watched Anchorman either, but no big deal. Go out this weekend and buy yourself a sense of humor.

Tusktimes: Hope you got the joke and were not fooled into overreaction like Ashevillevol, whose sarcasm meter is broken.

Diametrically opposed......I for one would appreciate a "That's what I did there" explanation.

I live in KY also. Most people, and I'm serious, bring up when they beat us in football in 2011. Not kidding. Happens all the time. They talk about it as if they had won some championship. I'm always sure to say, "Yeah, good for you guys, seeing as my mother was pregnant with me the last time you beat us."

Or "yeah, and you will be talking about it 25 years from now too".

Tons of Vols fans in ATL and I always get a "Go Vols" from at least someone. Other people around here still treat us with a lot of respect and say that we are a giant in football and it's only a matter of time when we wake up. Some apathy (Butch please) but mostly still getting respect.

I was in Israel in 2006 & had on a UT shirt on while touring old Jerusalem. We met a group of people going the other way & all the sudden I hear " GO VOLS!!" We are everywhere!

Here in Oklahoma, I get the Texas comparison as well sometimes. They'll be like haha that's why we (OU) beat the crap out of you guys (Texas) this year! and I just laugh and inform them that I'm wearing Tennessee gear, not Texas. The look on their face after that is priceless. But there is a surprising number of Vols fans that I see around here as well. And for the record, I CANNOT stand OU. Any time they lose, I rejoice.

Illinois has a terrible FB team ... so they are quiet --- actually alot of people compliment my UT shirts saying I like your shirt etc. and not in a sarcastic way.

I was in Egypt in the late 90s. I went to a T-shirt shop in Cairo and got a Tennessee orange shirt & had them embroider "Go Vols" in Arabic on the front. I wore it all over town. I would meet locals and they would say (in an Egyptian accent) " Go Vols....what is Go Vols?" At least I knew the guy had put what I wanted on the shirt!

Just like when women wear too much makeup, it's possible to over do it. Dial it down a bit imo.

Man, I had just come back home from the Vols-Bearcats game at the time. So was in full UT gear. I don't dress that way daily. Geez!

I'm in Orlando, and aside from the occasional "Longhorn fan?" question I get at the grocery store, I find the majority of Gator, Seminole and Canes fans to be genuinely respectful, like talking about one of the great games they remember from the past, and proceed to tell me how much they loved visiting Tennessee the last time they went. Like a previous poster said, a classy fan even from a most despised rival has a tremendous amount of respect for our program.
