Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Freshman year, 2004, a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed engineerVOL was making his debut on campus. Literally first day of classes. Was walking toward the UC. Had never seen so many cute girls. One caught my eye at the money wall. Cha Ching. Well remember the staircase and how the first tread was on a slope? I miscalculated and stumbled forward, backpack displacing forward over my head, creating additional momentum I couldn’t control, sent me stumbling for what seemed 100 feet.

I died inside.
I do remember that staircase. 😂

Good Lord. Brad Crawford at 247 did his bowl projections. He has Clemson meeting UT in the first round of the playoff and Clemson beating UT in Knoxville…

If there is a playoff game in Knoxville, Tennessee is winning.
Tennessee will have a first round bye for the playoffs. However, clemson would lose in Neyland even if the Vols aren’t there…

16-0 🤠

Well, well mister All American driving a Japanese product. It's okay though all individuals like different manufacturers of automobiles. I've driven Ford's all my life and NEVER have had an issue with them. Maybe I'm the lucky one.
If you had gotten the 2 po💩 Found On Road Deads I did...you would be like me.

I had an old 79 3 on the column Silverado for many years and I loved it...so I guess I would be a Chevy guy if hadn't become a Toyota guy.

The 2 Toyotas I have are beasts....one has 250,000 and the other 145, 000 and still just rollin rollin rollin along.

That's more or less how I interpreted it. We went "pedestrian" most of the game with 12 personnel. Dialed up some brilliant play calls in key moments and executed them. We didn't have to get fancy most of the game though. We just bullied them and manhandled the game. Most of the second half looked like we were playing a scrimmage in a mostly-empty Neyland.

State forced us to play underneath and run the ball and we did. We just out-executed them 8/10 plays.
I somewhat disagree on the State forced us to play underneath. Tennessee’s offense could have gone big plays successfully against the pack.

It was a good opportunity to work on timing for a controlled short game. So they did.

At no point in that game did State force anything…😎

You go have fun getting 12 ABs and scraping bye in the minors. I’ll take my contract and invest it elsewhere while starting an actual career before wasting 3+ years of my life
"I'll say one thing about that boy...he sure does have a hell of a lot of quit in him!"

If not, then maybe..tuberculosis..or typhoid..or measles..or smallpox..or about a million critters and Indians wanting eat or scalp you..or bad weather/exposure..or getting eaten by the healthier members of your traveling party when stuck on a high pass in the Sierras..or falling down cliffs...or getting runover by wagons or stampeding livestock..or drowning...or getting caught in a plains grassfire...

Those folks had guts....we don't anymore.
My Granddad used to say "Hard times make hard people, soft times make soft people." We've had soft times for quite a while, if it ever hit the fan again people would get tough or die.

You're a better man than I. I bet that's fun, but man. Gets expensive.
I've got a system figured out that works for us, because yeah, it gets stupid expensive. I get seasons passes for the kids every Christmas (and for me too because I'm just an old kid), and buy them using their payment plan. Three kids + me = equal number for the rides. One of the first years we did it we went in to grab lunch and for the 4 of us to get lunch, and drinks, and some dessert thing it was $104, no exaggeration. So since then I've been experimenting with different options, it started with packing a cooler and having a picnic in the parking lot. Since then its evolved to me wearing a backpack cooler, filled with snacks and sandwiches, and we have two of the unlimited drink plans that they offer, and also pack refillable water bottles. With the gold seasons passes parking is free, entry is paid for, and we have all-year access (we're actually going to Scarowinds tonight, weather permitting), they also had a concert series this year. All that to say, Dippin' Dots is pretty much the only out of pocket expense while we're there. It works well for us!

Only wrong answers...

Snort coke off the sunsphere and drink mimosas at market square.

On football weekends, the city of Knoxville suspends its public nudity laws because it’s just too extreme expensive for the police to enforce. So your group is encouraged to let it all hang out. Oh, get drink on Tennessee moonshine and sing Rocky Top. But don’t woo.

You act like he’s been muddling in the minors for 20 seasons. He was in effin COLLEGE a few months ago! Are you posting from some Eastern European country where the exchange rate makes that $297 k cartel launching loot? He gonna do a hostile takeover of Google? Needs something cuz his resume is shot.

McGill, this summer was blessed to see the Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier this summer.
Hiked up to Delta Lake. 🤩 This has been my phone’s wallpaper.

I hate you..😒..just kidding..I hate myself for not doing hikes like that when I still could in my 20s-30s...I had planned a hike to Phelps Lake when were there in 17 but my boy and his wife didn't want to because "they weren't feeling it"...now my knees are so bad I won't even be able to do that one.

But...I still love the place and we already have our cabin paid for at Colter Bay for a whole week next June!...I think I'm just gonna go fishing a lot, or take a raft trip down the Snake...I'm gonna try to do the Hidden Falls-Inspiration Point hike..but I don't know if I will be able to....I hope so.

That’s gonna be amazing. That pic was from June. I think that’s the best month that’s not late September/early October. Still snow caps and not yet fire season. Roaring waterfalls, crisp skies. You can do Hidden Falls! Inspiration point is difficult. Man I love that place.

Yep...I will say this though, there are still a lot of tough people here, but they just mostly keep to themselves and prepare for the SHTF.

Those are the people you don't wanna f with when it does...they will be stacking bodies.

1883 is a hell of a miniseries for any of you who haven't seen it. It's a prequel to Yellowstone and shows some of the living hell that those making the trip west had to endure.
