Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Josh will have to earn his money…. Teams have figured out how to defend us. We will have to see if Josh has a counter.
I have to trust that Heupel is a great OC/offensive mind. He's fielded too many top 10 offenses for me to think he suddenly doesn't know what he's doing. I think that maybe he's just too enamored with his defense and was enjoying playing a very safe brand of football. Too many coaches do that for it to not be appealing to them. And perhaps those two picks vs NC State and strip sacks vs OU spooked him.

But he needs to realize that you only get maybe 1 win per season turtling up like that in the SEC unless you have an absolutely ELITE defense. He's got to accept the bad with the good on offense and trust his guys to make plays.

Tua, Bryce Young, Manziel, Ewers, will rogers under Leach. And then plenty more that sat the bench for 2 years and then shined when they finally got playing time. And then plenty more outside the SEC, which according to Dave Bartoo the SEC has the lowest home field advantage, the team with better recruiting wins 74% of the time the last decade regardless of where it’s played
The Bama QBs and Ewers have way better rosters than we do. We’ve recruited well but Bama and Texas and UGA have depth we simply don’t have. Mainly on the OL. OL is the start of our problems

That’s how our QB is taught to read the play. It’s man on the outside, and one DB is usually well off the LOS. It gets one WR in space with another one needing to block. We’ve been running that since day one under Heupel. Just more noticeable when we lose. Velus Jones took it 70 yards on play one against UK in Heupel’s first year.
I know…. teams have figured out how to defend us, imo.

Only that one time on the goal line. There were several where they didn't fake an injury, we just went slowly.
Thanks. I seem to recall that Slaughter faked two injuries, but I don't feel like checking right now, as you can imagine. But I get your point about not pressing our pace.

Also, has there been a single time in SEC play that we made a big play to near the goal line and there was not an (obviously pre-planned) fake injury?

No offense to Bru McCoy and White but they both don’t make defenses fear them, so kinda happy to see some new blood. We need WR’s to step up and get separation

What angle did you watch the game from? Can you show where receivers never got separation?

He’s done more than Heupel has. Barnes won an SEC title in his 4th year. He’s also a better coach. For all the heat we give Barnes, he would never have had a gameplan worse than what Heupel did last night. That was miserable. And that’s on the coach.

Not arguing just asking, what specifically about the game plan was bad?
