Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Not the ideal game to be the walking wounded headed into Athens. They are gonna be like sharks after blood with that beat down from Ole Piss. Kirby will do everything in his power to have them on another level this week.

I never trust Heupel with injury news and don’t think Nico will actually play. Their DL gonna feast on our OL, with or without Nico. With our porous OL and the DL who can’t stop the run the last two games my BVS has flared back up.

Sorry fellas, throw me into the river because I don’t see us coming out of Athens with a dub and think our playoff hunt ends there unfortunately. They will look for the smallest of cracks in us to knock us out of CFP contention.
My BVS is acting up as well. The one thing though with this Georgia team is Beck is really bad under pressure this year and their DBs aren’t stellar. If Nico does play, big plays are there to be had and if our DL can get pressure Beck will make some bad throws.

First this is a dumb argument but it also ignores our QB being out for the 2nd half. Making these statements have zero base and I’m not even sure how to discuss it or debate alternate realities. In my alternate reality, we don’t lose to Ark but it has about as much validity as this statement.
So you call an argument dumb and then don’t explain why it’s dumb. Just random blabbering.

Got it.

The media up north have always been bias to their teams so any sort of suggestion that 4 SEC teams will make it in must really get under their skin. The Indiana vs Ohio state game could be considered an elimination game…
It's only an elimination game if Indiana loses.... which I think they will.

If Indiana wins, both will get in.

Well they did just kill LSU at LSU. They also beat UGA. Besides Bama, who have we beat?

Two wins against good teams
We have one.

Here’s the records for the teams we’ve played.
Vols: 37-48
Bama: 44-41

We squeeze by mediocre teams because of defense. If the offense would’ve taken care of business we would be having a different convo. Reality is, if our defense wasn’t this good our record would probably be around 4-4.

Also, when the announcer last night says, “Miss St averages more points in the SEC than UTs offense does”, that’s an issue
It’s a tough decision, but at the end of the day we can’t just forget Bama lost to Vandy and we beat them head to head.

And if and buts and what not, but our defense is good and hasn’t given up 20 points all year.

I love you so much. This is an actual argument and will shut my ass up.

Thank you so much. God bless you.

VolNation needs to sack up. Never seen so much whining for an 8-1 team in prime playoff position.
Yes.

One downside of the playoffs is that it has clearly led to people damning wins because they fear they might not be big enough to sway the committee. We are in 1st place in the SEC.

I honestly don’t know the tiebreakers in play if we were to win against UGA but lose to Vanderbilt, but I have zero doubt about the Vandy game. Yea they beat Bama but they just got smoked by SC and will likely end the year at 6-6.
The SEC has clear tie breaking rules. They deliberately exclude margin of victory as a criterion.

In the event of a tie between teams competing for a place in the Conference championship game, the following procedures will be used in descending order until the tie is broken:
  1. Head-to-head competition among the tied teams
  2. Record versus all common Conference opponents among the tied teams
  3. Record against highest (best) placed common Conference opponent in the Conference standings, and proceeding through the Conference standings among the tied teams
  4. Cumulative Conference winning percentage of all Conference opponents among the tied teams
  5. Capped relative total scoring margin versus all Conference opponents among the tied teams
  6. Random draw of the tied teams
If the regular season standings determine a clear Conference champion and two or more teams are tied for second place, the Conference champion will be the home team in the Championship Game and the tiebreaking procedures will be used to determine its opponent.

If a tiebreaker step produces standings with two teams tied for first place in the Conference, both will qualify for the championship game. To decide the seeding of the two teams, both will progress through the two-team tiebreaker procedures until the tie is broken, which will determine home/away designation for the SEC Championship Game.

The CFP does not.

We are getting zero benefit for a strong defense because everyone expects us to only have a strong offense. Even on shows that do power ratings such as Josh Pate. Doesn’t really matter though because you beat UGA and it doesn’t matter how you do it. Just keep winning and no one will care where you are power rated.

Well, here we are 75% through the regular season and we are still on track.

Step 9 of our 16 step program is another successful step.

Step 1 of our 2 step bulldog season is in the bag! On to Athens to whoop more bulldog butt.

8-1 is looking pretty good, but critical week is coming up fast.

I am still all in for

15-1🤠

Who’s with me?

Go Big Orange!

General reflection on the new playoff scheme. Not a gripe.

Clearly the people who said that the playoffs would greatly diminish conference championships to near zero (as they have done in basketball and baseball) were correct. The biggest concern, even in the conference championship game itself, is the playoff implications of losing the conference championship game. It could cause the second ranked SEC team to miss the playoffs. How bizarre would that be? And if the second place team does make the playoffs, they do so as the only team without a bye during the playoffs: a clear disadvantage.

The conference winner does get a well timed bye. The other teams (unless they are the conference runner-up) get a bye the previous week.

And even for the winner of the conference championship game, there is thought that perhaps a 5-seed is the better spot because the 5-seed hosts its first round game. And surely in our league, the second ranked SEC team in Atlanta will be a much tougher draw than playing the 12-seed anywhere, much less at home.

As I have said, there is no perfect way to determine these things.

As for now, I am delighted to be in first place in the SEC! GB🍊!
