Recruiting Football Talk VIII

This is an important quote. The head of the committee a BiG10 dude admits there was debate in who should be higher us or OSU. And the tie breaker the very poor tie breaker was Indiana. Put Indiana in a cage match with UF right now and tell me the odds vegas puts on it. This all i am pissed about. That one bogus data point steals our chance to host. Ultimately I am pissed about that not the playing OSU part.

Playing at home is a huge advantage now. Getting to watch my team at home is even huger.

If every SEC team is 0-12 (which is impossible but let's just play along with your ridiculous hypothetical) then we wouldn't be among the top 5 conference champions. That's why Army even if they win their conference aren't getting into the playoffs. Conference prestige matters when it comes down to making a playoff. Teams from better conferences get the benefit of the doubt. Undefeated Army was getting no respect in the polls because nobody respected their competition. If the SEC becomes terrible then we wouldn't get respect either for beating up on weak competition.
Counter argument: Notre Dame

In the vacuum of they played a top heavy Big10 schedule. This better wins crap is skewed to the hollow Big10. I may be dead ass wrong when the games are played but I am doubtful.
I posted it this morning. Indiana played 1 of the other top 6 teams in conference and lost. They played 3 of the top 11. They beat 6 of the bottom 7 in conference, and those 6 have a combined 12-42 conference record. Ridiculous.

He said Indiana, not SMU.

He said he's not ruling out dropping a champ game team out of the playoff. Then he went on to clarify what he actually said that had been misinterpreted as "no champ game teams will be dropped out of the playoff."
respectfully, did you black out every time you read past "SMU" in his statement. He's not explicitly talking about Indiana or Tennessee for that matter. That entire statement is about how SMU can move and how TN and IU won't move in relation to each other.

I want to reiterate how stupid it is to have automatic 1-4 and 12 as the conference champions.

First of all, the 12 for 5th best conference champion was only done under the idea that they assumed it would be a G5 team (or 2-Pac) ranked in the teens or 20s. Imagine a scenario where the 5 best teams in the country win their conferences. The #5 team would be the 12-seed and would have to play #6 who jumps to 5-seed. Bonkers.

Seed the bracket straight up. Right now it would be:
1. Oregon(aq) - bye
2. Texas(aq) - bye
3. Penn State - bye
4. Notre Dame - bye
5. Georgia v 12. Arizona State(aq)
6. Ohio State v 11. Alabama
7. Tennessee v 10. Boise State(aq)
8. SMU(aq) v 9. Indiana

Again, we do this for March Madness. Conference champs don't get the highest seeds, just auto-bids. So many conference champs end up 15 and 16-seeds. They seed the bracket straight up.
That is not how it works. The fifth best conference champion is seeded as they are ranked. If their rank falls outside of the top 12 they take the last spot (12). Realistically, the fifth best conference champ will never be seeded higher than 11 or 12, but they could technically be the five-seed.
