On the VQ podcast last night. Eric Cain read a stat from Pro football focus, on 31 drop back passes, we sent 8 pressures. Thats 25%. Howard sucks against the blitz, but we never blitz.
Also, the excuse for not blitzing, is we don't have the DB'S to leave one on one, fair enough, but watch the UGA and OSU games we weren't giving our corners very much safety help.
So it's like here take 1 on 1 shots, and here's all the time in the world to get open. It makes no sense.
Also, Howard is elite in man coverage. We played some zone, which we aren’t good at, but it’s something that Howard must not be as good either. We just got beat everywhere. What gameplan do you use when you have to cover elite fast WRs knowing we have slow safeties and linebackers
Our cbs were actually there and just got beat, it happens
Help over the top wouldve been nice for them but we are slow
There's typically a reason for that tho.where are the kids located? do they play for big schools? you know as well as I do, a kid from Mater Dei will be higher rated as Oakland Murfreesboro.
See and maybe it's just me, but I don't consider 4 a pressure. If you aren't bring 6 are you really blitzing
True but as someone that played in 6A football in middle TN with a Mr.Football as teammate. there are studs in Middle TN that are highly under recruited. Butch Jones didn’t offer him or even ask him on a visit. My teammate was Tyrel Dodson at centennial. Starting linebacker on the Seattle Seahawks. He was a monster on the field and in the gym. There's typically a reason for that tho.
People want to crap on recruiting rankings, but how often are the teams that are top 5 or even top 3 winning? It's not an accident that those things coincidence with each other.
No argument from me.I mean considering so many play 3-4 fronts now...
But I think 5 is the minimum for it to really be considered a blitz (to me at least)
So even if 3 are down linemen you'd have to send 2
Banks simply doesn't pressure and our players aren't fast enough or just aren't coached well to cover in zone. And if you've got both happening well you see how many QBs have carved us up...
this year:
Ohio State 80.6% for 317 yards
Arkansas 70% for 297 yards
Georgia 62.5% for 347 yards
last year:
Georgia 80.6% 316 yards
Missouri 75% 275 yards
2022
South Carolina 81.6% 453 yards
LSU 71.1% 300 yards
Georgia 68% 257 yards
Bama 67.3% 455 yards
Been a consistent issue with Banks' playcalling/coaching (since he's also a DB coach). The games where our DL or DBs have clear talent advantage it doesn't matter because we win the head to heads. But games where our DL can't get pressure and/or our DBs can't stay with their WRs. We get carved the hell up.
Oh, there are exceptions to the rule for sure. Cedric Tillman, Jaylen Wright, and Cam Sutton come to mind. Typically though the rule is a rule for a reason.True but as someone that played in 6A football in middle TN with a Mr.Football as teammate. there are studs in Middle TN that are highly under recruited. Tim Banks is a great d coordinator when he can rush 4 and get pressure. When he can't get pressure with 4 he's lost. He does fake blitzes like a champ. We were joking and laughing during the game when he would show blitz and back out. "He's gonna send them this time! Nope, fake. He's gonna light em up this time, psych!"No argument from me.
Even if you are running 3 down lineman, typically your LEO(whatever term we use) is an Elite rusher. I can't consider 4 a blitz
Gotta bring someone else for me to consider it a blitz.
Heupel seems more relaxed than Tony, Tony took over a total disaster as well. No success no facilities in the toughest baseball conference and immediately recruited at an elite clip. Multiple CWS appearances and a national championship. Maybe as you said Heupel will turn into an annual elite recruiter but idk. Yet to be seenTony was at this spot after that team lost to ND in the Supers. He's been on a tear ever since.
Hopefully what happened Saturday gives Heupel the same hunger.
Josh Pate said talking to the two staffs before the game that Ohio State loved the matchup while Tennessee staff felt like they were out matched and needed a lot of things to go their way to pull off a win. So if you feel like that as a staff what do you need to do to change that feeling before you go into these big time Primetime games?
That's the problem with some of the folks in here. We're not UGA right now. We're still working our way to that level from "Dumpster Fire" four years ago.Kirby fired Chaney after going to a national championship and having the best rushing attack with I’m pretty sure the best season ever for two RBs on the same team. And they upgraded and won two natty’s. It’s possible for Heupel to do the same
I know lining up in double a and dropping is one of his favorite things to do.Tim Banks is a great d coordinator when he can rush 4 and get pressure. When he can't get pressure with 4 he's lost. He's does fake blitzes like a champ. We were joking and laughing during the game when he would show blitz and back out. "He's gonna send them this time! Nope, fake.
