The fan base has been slowly checking out over the last four years, since 2017 season TCU is sub-.500 with one Cheez-It Bowl victory. It’s a familiar pattern from guys like Fulmer, Richt, or Mack Brown, coaches just get stale if they stay at the same place for long enough, and they become a victim of the expectations they themselves have set. The closest analogy might be Bobby Bowden because GP built that program up from nothing. Supposedly he lost the support of a few of his BMD allies and they approached him about stepping down.

Like @butchna said, TCU is better just due to the league they play in, but otherwise very similar schools. The selling point over Tech is living in Fort Worth over Lubbock.

I know Jeff Traylor just signed an extension with UTSA, but he should be their top choice. Also should give Billy Napier and Jamey Chadwell a hard look.

Honestly...TCU is a harder spot than SMU. SMU is in Dallas and not a private Christian school. A bit easier to recruit to Dallas over Fort Worth/Lubbock, plenty of local talent close by admission requirements are a bit easier too I believe. Biggest down side is American conference vs Big 12 (Power 5).

Ive only drive through a few times, but what is the difference in recruiting Dallas vs Fort Worth? It’s literally the same city to me. Maybe they were separate at one point but they are just one giant city now.

Volnation, I don’t post very often but I wanted to ask if you all would consider dominating another poll. My son had a big game Friday night and is up for area player of the week. He caught his first and second TD of the year including the game winner with under a minute to go. He had 7 catches for 139 including the two TDs. If any of you have time, please vote for Chyler Lee. Thanks and GBO!

“Local talent” is spread out over a large land area in DFW. Just as easy to access from I-20 as it is George Bush. Arlington, Grand Prairie and Euless are hotbeds and actually closer to Fort Worth. Desoto and Cedar Hill are basically a wash distance wise. SMU’s pretty exclusive also. Great business school and you need some grease to enroll.

Will do because Vols, but honorable mention for this cat …
Cade Wood, Huntingdon:
Wood had 156 yards and five touchdowns on 11 carries in the 48-14 win over Union City. He also had 12 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and a blocked punt.

Well Dallas is about 400k more people than Fort Worth. But yeah being half an hour a part it's not a huge difference. I think the biggest advantage is SMU not being a Christian school.

That would be a mistake for him, IMO.

Former DT QB from Mississippi.... wonder if he thinks he can transfer to play QB for Kiffin?

I think he might be able to RS this year. So he'd leave with 4 years left of eligibility since last season didn't count. With his speed though if he wants to stay at WR I think it's a mistake to leave this offense as well.

Maybe my brain isn't working after a busy morning. What's BMD?

Interestingly, Patterson is also a reason why Texas has had a revolving door of coaches. You can't lose to TCU consistently and expect to keep the coaching job at Texas.

You do know what the M stands for…right? 😏
Yep I do, but unlike TCU they seem to have distanced themselves from it. Also enrolls 2k+ more students than TCU so again it's easier to get kids in at SMU than TCU.

From their website:
SMU was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South in partnership with civic leaders. The University is nonsectarian in its teaching and committed to academic freedom and open inquiry.

Eh, I would have probably gone to SMU if I hadn't gone to UT. I was born in Dallas, and my dad had season tickets during the Proud Pony days. SMU's Perkins School of Seminary is well-known.

Looks like the school just recently has wanted to get away from full Methodist control because the Methodist Church as been battling with a recent political issue. It still has Methodist roots and overtones.

Need a 3.7 GPA to get into SMU and there’s 700 more students than TCU. SMU’s also a private school and much more stringent in their requirements. And TCU’s not BYU or Liberty. No one’s going to Bible study before study hall unless there’s a student group voluntarily conducting it. I’m cursed with knowing what I’m talking about here. My daughter was a good student and I did the research. TCU was pricey…SMU was practically Ivy League.
