I was quoting the story that he was drunk driving and killed someone. I said since he killed someone, he deserves a long prison sentence and not five years. This site man… Do you feel better getting that out when I said nothing of what you just went off about? That's just silly. The problem here isn't the accident, it's the purposeful negligence that led to the accident.
Car loses traction on ice and you kill someone. That's a slight amount of negligence for driving too fast or discounting the weather. Is that a life sentence also?
Handing out life sentences anytime someone dies regardless of circumstance isn't in the ball park of real justice.
Didnt Leonard little get busted for DUI again after the accident?Maybe...only happened to 4 other NFL players that I can find.
Josh Brent - Intoxication manslaughter
Michael Floyd - Extreme DUI
Leonard Little - Involuntary manslaughter
Donte Stallworth - DUI manslaughter
Max time in jail was 180 days by Josh Brent, the others did 30 days or less and most their punishment was related to house arrest or probation and community service.
Edit: Also it appears Brent had previously served time for a DUI.
Interesting question, should the results determine the severity of the punishment or the level of negligence regardless of the results?Yup, it's about public safety. Obviously the guy wasn't trying to kill anyone - but nor is anyone DUIing. But they're all a risk to society. Outside of that, it's mostly just bad or good luck.
Imo non-accident DUIs could deserve harsher penalties. And those in death accidents...probably don't need 10+ years. Those 2 groups should meet somewhere closer to the middle. Like shooting off a clip in a crowd and you hit absolutely no one vs killing 5. Mostly just luck. Any DUIer is capable of negligently killing anyone at any time. It comes down to negligence, not just probabilistic outcomes.
That said, sure there is justice too...even if accidental negligence...and that's why it would still be a harsher punishment ofc.
I didn’t think I would have to explain verbatim a quote discussing a drunk driver killing a person so much. If you are driving drunk and kill someone while driving, you absolutely should serve a long sentence.Just curious, but if it truly was accidental... how does potentially ruining two lives make sense to you? If a drunk pedestrian ran out in front of your car while you were innocently driving down the highway, do you honestly think you should serve 5 years in prison? And you'd be okay with that?
The trauma one would likely suffer might be penalty enough, but jmo.
You said, "If you kill someone, you deserve a long prison sentence. Accidentally or purposefully." If you want to have philosophical discussions, you need to use a little bit more precise wording. I thought the same thing Ten Titans thought, what a silly argument that an accident should have the same punishment as intentional murder. If you meant just in the scenario of a DUI, that's a pretty big difference and probably needs to be stated.I was quoting the story that he was drunk driving and killed someone. And yet you left out me quoting a person talking about Ruggs and his drunk driving and my post right before it discussing the matter as well. It was implied from my previous discussion and posts. I didn’t realize I needed to spell it out so much when we are discussing a drunk driver who killed someone. That is all I was discussing and quoted. And keep quoting and saying. I will edit it for everyone. You said, "If you kill someone, you deserve a long prison sentence. Accidentally or purposefully." My bad... guess I took your previous post too literally. I do, however, think it is still a tricky issue based on the definition of "drunk driver".I didn’t think I would have to explain verbatim a quote discussing a drunk driver killing a person so much. I understand all that, and yet all of that is beside my point..the dude was dealing at a ridiculous level against UK...36 of 39..a new SEC record for completion percentage at 92.3 percent...and yet they only won by 14.Oh yeah, Rogers is arguably the best QB in the SEC...75.2% completion 2890 passing yards which lead the SEC in both categories. But he's last in Yards per attempt at 6.6 and hasn't thrown a ton of TDs 19 TDs vs 7 INTs (3rd highest in league for both stats)
But with most Leach QBs the question is always the same, are the QBs really good or is the volume and system helping them look good? Cause Rogers has 134 MORE attempts than the next closest QB in the SEC right now.
It's a website. Just saying don't get riled up when people don't click back to see the whole chain to the OP.And yet you left out me quoting a person talking about Ruggs and his drunk driving and my post right before it discussing the matter as well. Mark Stoops is a good (not great) football coach, which is a big deal for UK to have for once. I really hope they run him off, because they will be a headache as long as he is there. This just goes to show how much you got up play the whole season out. Remember everyone tripping over Chip Kelly when they beat LSU early in the season and everyone talking about how great Mark Stoops is when Kentucky was undefeated? Where are those people at now?
I feel ya man! The person I knew was wasted that went to prison. Partied with him a lot. But he took a little girls life and he deserves the time he got. But you are right that the limit can be different for different people. Shoot 21 year old me could drink eight beers and feel nothing. If I drink that now, I’m in bed half the day.My bad... guess I took your previous post too literally. I do, however, think it is still a tricky issue based on the definition of "drunk driver".
Back in the 70's the BAC for a DUI was .15. Then in the 80's it changed to .10, and then in the 90's it changed to .08. That means someone could potentially have a 5 oz glass of wine and fall within the parameters of being a drunk driver.
And ftr... I am strongly against drunk driving and would encourage anyone to get a ride when they've had too much to drink. However, the BAC limit relative to drunk driving does not mean the driver was actually inebriated.
I'd say they'll try. MADD is pretty outspoken on the matter and states seem to respect them. Generally there isn't a lot of wiggle room in pleading a DUI/felony death by motor vehicle. If he's guilty, he should definitely pay toll. . . and more, imo.Assuming Ruggs' defense will try to work out a plea for a lesser charge though.
So..."entertaining"...that depends on if you like to have a team that plays total defense. I don't want an "entertaining" team, I want a team that blows people off the field...which is what that team should have been. The FACT that Appy f'n State pushed them around on both lines like they did is really what that team was...a team with insane offensive skill position talent and nothing elseWe were on CBS four straight weeks, and the 3 weeks against UF, UGA, and A&M was probably the most entertaining stretch of games for us in the last 10+ years.

I don't think we can count on Hendo having an out of body experience game like that...plus I don't think we can count on UK turning the ball over four times.
It is crazy to me that MSU was so efficient while UK had four TOs and yet only won by 14..
