Yup. Imo you have to get sorta lucky and hit big with transfers in maybe Y1...Y2 at most...then "flip" those wins with transfers into legit solid HS recruiting classes and long-term development. We also saw what it did for Florida in the long run. Short term its fine, but long term youre creating depth issues bringing in so many upper class men each class.
In a perfect world, the transfer portal fills one or two holes a team has, not basically rebuilds the entire depth chart.Yup. If you're still relying on a transfer-heavy strategy after the first couple years, I don't think that's a good thing. Especially when you're in a situation where you probably need a developed, veteran team to get over the hump - similar to MSU. That's probably where we are at this point. We need a 2015-2016 type scenario, but actually cash in our "2016" season.
This cycle is gonna be rough regardless. Recruiting is a lot about relationships and this coaching staff doesnt really have any with the top recruits in this class. 23 and 24 will be more telling of what recruiting will be like long term. Now that UT is saying the NCAA business is done, will recruiting pickup or are we just screwed this cycle?
As someone who hasn’t followed recruiting this year all that closely, what’s going on there?
12th out of 14 in the SEC won’t cut it.
19 of the top 20 players in the state committed elsewhere?
I thought Heup might struggle with recruiting but I didn’t see it being this rough.
Just hope local fans don't act like schmucks now that he's committed elsewhere. If there's any hope left (prolly not, but...) it could be lost if fans leave him with a sour taste in his mouth.I think it sucks and I think we should make his entire family leave Tennessee in disgrace, but other than that, I think I'm reacting just fine....
Psshhh. I'm going to his high school next week to cause a scene.Just hope local fans don't act like schmucks now that he's committed elsewhere. If there's any hope left (prolly not, but...) it could be lost if fans leave him with a sour taste in his mouth.
Wish him the best, move on, maybe present him with a boat sponsor NiL... @InVOLuntary ...idk just thinking out loud
I stand by what I said as far as McAllister ran over us in 99 !I don't think you do recall correctly. McCluster in 2009.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Dexter McCluster rushed for 282 yards and finished with 324 all-purpose yards, setting records at both Ole Miss and Tennessee as his Rebels ran over the Volunteers 42-17 on Saturday.
His rushing yards broke the Rebels record of 242 by Dou Innocent in 1995. He eclipsed the all-purpose mark of 317 yards by Deuce McAllister in 1999.
Are you copying me? I said this exact thing in the Nolen thread. Plagiarism! This cycle is gonna be rough regardless. Recruiting is a lot about relationships and this coaching staff doesnt really have any with the top recruits in this class. 23 and 24 will be more telling of what recruiting will be like long term.

How much do you attribute it to subpar recruiters vs ncaa investigation?
