OkNIL ain’t “killing” us. We’re gonna finish with a top 20 recruiting class. For Heaven’s sake, we ain’t even six months into it, and this the first signing period with it officially in place. It’s changing daily at an unregulated pace. We’re one of the top money generating programs in the country, so my feathers remain unruffled. We too shall have piles of cash to make it rain on recruits eventually.
Now, the transfer portal has hurt, but I fully expect those fortunes to turn good over the next six months.
Not real familiar with what he did, but doesn't change the point that companies are going to expect to see the kids they are paying on the field. Otherwise you just have some expensive kid on your commercials or whatever, that no one knows.
Edit: And if the kid ends up back in Texas, some Texas school is going to be expected to put him on the field.
That might happen on an individual deal that your hypothetical booster is paying for, but the beauty of the collective fund is that is established to create an endowment to pay a floor amount of money to every scholarship athlete. The booster is paying into to a general fund that gets distributed to all players. And the scenario you describe, it it happens, has probably been happening for decades anyway. “Don’t you know how much money I’ve given to this university? You need to be playing Kaleb more!” The that’s just the nature of jock sniffing college football programs.I look for Texas to undermine their own efforts though. For example: J.R Ewing calls up coach Sark and says, “I put up $500,000 to get Kaleb Headhunter here, now why ain’t he playing? I want him on the field now, etc, etc”. Meanwhile 5star out of high school, Headhunter, hasn’t struck a lick at anything all fall camp or in practice, and may not even be the 3rd best player at his spot.
@NormalVolNormal people do not exist on VN.
CommunistNeed to cap NIL deal nationwide! No 17 yo needs to have 1M plus to rep a brand.
Cap it at 25k a year or something. Alrwady getting free education, place to live, unlimited food and all the other perks.
25-50k a year should make anyone happy til they get to the next level, in which those deserving of a NIL anyway, will likely get to.
