I'm sure Ryan Day isn't too thrilled about Freeman potentially landing the ND job. Especially as OSU Alum. ND has more $$$ than OSU and potentially a HC that can sit down with a big recruit's family and dominate Day.
It’s not an even field on academics tho. The Buckeyes will always be able to get more elites admitted.

When it comes to Gibbs...

More reason to hate Pruitt. I was really hoping we would get Gibbs.

We should have @peaygolf do a vol countdown like he does in the preseason. VFL Terry Fair wore 13 from 1995-1997.

13 more days until OU doesn't have a coach before ESD.

The 13th Head Coach in Tennessee Vols history served from 1936-1940.
His name was General Robert Neyland.
His record during those year was 43-7-3. The 1938 team finished the season undefeated at 11-0 and his '39 team finished the regular season 10-0 and unscored upon. The last team to ever do so.

NIL will sort of fix itself honestly. Cause eventually the folks will write in certain protections for their money. Especially with the free transfer and how quickly these 4/5 stars are willing to portal out.

If I drop six figures on you BECAUSE you're at Tennessee then if you leave before graduating or entering the draft I expect a pro-rated amount of that money back.

The smart business will basically offer deals like the cookie place did, you snag a INT and we give out free cookies. Typically what then happens is people show up to get a free cookie and then buy more. So on that day X % of sells would go to the player.

But I'm not a business major or anything, I just feel like smart money don't invest it into players without something coming back to them...maybe I'm wrong and there are lots of big boosters willing to just toss money at HS kids that may never make it anyway.

The latest on confirmed new head coaches

VT - Brent Pry
LSU - Brian Kelly
LA Tech - Sonny Cumbie
USC - Lincoln Riley
TCU - Sonny Dykes
Washington - Kalen DeBoer
SMU - Rhett Lashlee
Florida - Billy Napier
New Mexico St - Jerry Kill
WSU - Jake Dickert
Georgia Southern - Clay Helton
UConn - Jim Mora
UMass - Don Brown
TTU - Joey McGuire
Troy -
Akron -
FIU -
Temple -
OU -
Louisiana -
ND - Marcus Freeman (favorite, not yet confirmed)

So if Luke Fickell is a legit candidate for the OU job then they'll have to wait until after the CFP before he can be hired...and if that is the case it could leave them with Matt Rhule as a backup option as well.

Feels so good to not be on that list and have a coach that we all ACTUALLY saw development and improvements. That gave us a product to be excited about! GBO!!

That cookie deal worked out incredibly well from an advertising standpoint.

A big factor in the NIL's that is going to affect CFB (and possibly ruin it) is when say Alabama gets a million dollar NIL deal for a HS athlete to get him to play. Now this HS kid has not played a down of CFB, has not even practiced with the team.

The company paying this kid this money is expecting this kid to be a star immediately and is expecting Saban to put this kid on the field as much as possible. Turns out he needs 2-3 years of development, or is a bust. Saban doesn't play him.

What happens? Now you have these companies butting heads with Saban (or any other coach), because they want a return on their investment. Coach is trying to win games, not appease NIL investors.

Even the best of the best coaches are going to get tired of playing that game real quick, unless the guidelines are set up before the kid signs the dotted line.

...and even then, it won't end.

JMO of course.

This ^ . I do not regard it as an opinion. I believe it will prove to be factual and that it is already underway. Some have been preparing for this day for a couple of years now.

There will be other factors that come into play as well. But if you think coaching turnover is high now, just wait. Big money contracts - yes. Coaches turning them down due to the money players backing the employer - much more so than in the past. They know the first 6-6 or losing season they turn in will result in getting canned or the heat will be turned to high. The buyouts in contracts will skyrocket, more litigation for firings with cause, etc.

I love the approach DW/admin are taking. Complete the due diligence, project, analyze the trends, build a system that can sustain success instead of jumping in the deep end without a life preserver before you know how to swim.

I don't think it is, or rather will be going forward, about an "investment" like a normal business relationship though..at least not with the elite highly coveted players. It will just be used as a way to pay them to attend your school.

I think it will be like that for regular players at most schools though.

Agree - with all of these changes (NIL, portal), I feel pretty good about having DW in charge. I feel he was a home run hire.

I agree about the approach, but it means there will be no shortcuts back. It is going to take a while.

I just came here to say something. With Napier at Florida… I fully expect us to have that feather under heupels cap next year. I know they are our kryptonite, but I’m look at them as a big win for us next year. My only disclaimer is this will depend on our recruiting/transfer portal grabs. But if we shore up some defense issues and keep or gain playmakers. Florida is going to get smacked next year.

I have a feeling this NIL stuff is gonna leak over into the betting world, in a bad way.

NIL ain’t “killing” us. We’re gonna finish with a top 20 recruiting class. For Heaven’s sake, we ain’t even six months into it, and this the first signing period with it officially in place. It’s changing daily at an unregulated pace. We’re one of the top money generating programs in the country, so my feathers remain unruffled. We too shall have piles of cash to make it rain on recruits eventually.

Now, the transfer portal has hurt, but I fully expect those fortunes to turn good over the next six months.
Chicken Littles always gotta be on the lookout for a sky that is falling.

I stayed home today sick as a dog..so hopefully I won't get too far behind again..lol.
"The origin of the phrase 'sick as a dog' can be found in the early 1700's, when it was common to compare undesirable things to dogs. The explanation for this isn't that people didn't like dogs, it is that diseases such as the plague were often spread via animals like rats, birds, and unfortunately, dogs".

I wonder if ND even reached out to Fickell, or if they did, how far those conversations went. Fickell must really be putting his eggs in the Ohio St basket if Day is really going to leave for the NFL or get fired in the next couple of years. Wild times.
