Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

Question for those with more experience in recruiting changes:
Do you see any way when all the dust settles from this ridiculous coaching carousel that we end up near a top 10 class?

I enjoy this forum specifically because most of you have watched this for a while and have a pretty good sense of probability when it comes to how recruiting cycles normally tend to work out. I know this is not a "normal" year. But, I'd love to hear some guesses at if we keep climbing or if we level off and finish near 15 or so. (Which I'm not at all disappointed in!)

If the numbers at 247 are correct, we have 19 commits and are sitting at the #16 class. 25 is the max, right? Is that flexible with the transfer stuff that's changed recently?

I guess I'm wondering what our max number of more recruits are, and how we expect that to impact our final standings...

Sign 25, take additional 7 transfers for a total of 32.

In general that's the rule, I think however the question goes more to specifics than that. For example if no additional transfers occur, I only count 5 transfers who met the criteria to be replaced so far ( Bailey, Maurer, Morven, Hodge and T.Evans). So that would max us out at 30, assuming we're in a position to take a full 25 man class.

Another thing to consider is the 'super seniors' if Hooker, May's, Carvin, Flowers, Calbert, etc come back do they actually count against the 85 man roster cap?

Lots of things to consider, and I've not as of yet seen a comprehensive breakdown.

Yeah, with guys returning and no transfers since the end of season, we will have to fill (and stop) at the 85. Not a bad thing at all!!

We will see more transfers. They just haven’t happened yet. Spring practice usually has some deflections when people realize where they are on the depth chart.

So does that mean we can take somewhere in the ballpark of 11-13 more? Depending on the details of course...

Because that leaves a ton of room to climb in the rankings...

So this is funny and by funny I mean taking the small victories with the bad.
Machine / boat shed (excuse the junk)

About three hundred feet in between the two.
I feel for ya! When ya farm, “it’s always something…”!
That’s the typical luck I have as well. Prayers to all those hit by this!! Wow.

Keep in mind they don't factor anyone we pick up from the portal into our ranking, and we'll definitely take some portal players.

Highest recorded tornado wind speeds in history and longest track ever. When it hit Mayfield it had been on the ground for over 2 hours when it started in Arkansas and the wind speeds had been recorded at 304mph.
Well, we don't know any of that yet... We have to wait on the official tornado survey from the National Weather Service. This was definitely a violent tornado, though.

The data is available already for wind speed (305mph) and width (1 mile). The track has to be confirmed, but it's likely to be the first tornado to hit 4 states and early inspection hasn't yet shown that it lifted. The official survey usually just confirms the data and evidence already available, and unless there's an issue with some of the instruments or they find evidence it lifted, then it'll stick.

The state is reporting that the outbreak is the worst in Kentucky history. The Mayfield one alone may top 100 deaths.

That’s where development comes in, and the only rating that can be put on that is wins and losses. Way too much energy is spent on what the difference is between teams 5 and 8 in the SEC for recruiting.
My thought as well. Well said.

What is the *exact* skill/talent difference between #12 in recruiting and #s 7-10? Between #10 and #5?

If we get top 15, it means we'll be competitive in the SEC. That means we're more than competitive nationally. That's a decent goal at this point in program rebuild. The folks who are wringing their hands are doing so because they won't be happy or admit improvement until we're dominating everyone in the SEC like we did in the 90s. That's unrealistic and I pit them, as they are setting themselves up for a life that's one, continual Mylanta moment.

Yo, I'm a meteorologist... The National Weather Service has to officially confirm the track and the damage indicators which will give the wind speed. This tornado is definitely one for the record books. I am just saying we have to wait for some more information to come in before saying it is the longest tracked tornado of all time.

This is why people should look at recruiting rankings less these days. The major difference between a 3 star and a 5 star isn't necessarily ceiling, but time to impact. A program can make very well recruiting 3-4 stars with the occasional 5 stars , while recruiting from the portal for immediate impact/needs.

And there will be plenty of portal transfers from upper programs due to playing time, etc...
