So apparently my wife checked the final of the game and walks up to me at the end of the first quarter( watched it starting at about 10pm) and says.... I'm tired and gonna go to bed do you can enjoy rest of the game on your own. Allowed me to yell at the TV alone.
I scared my dog from yelling at the tv. LOL

So who’s he suppose to block? De or LB? Can’t be both! He chipped the de out of the play long enough for Wright to hit the gap.
I’d say C or LG effort was pitiful to let ilb blow the play up in the backfield.
Look how weakly he engages. He doesn't even try. If he hits number 7 with any force its a walk in TD

Fant did what he was suppose to, chip the DE off and hit the LB.
Problem was ilb came from the left side and caught Wright in the backfield allowing the DE to get back in on the play. Had ilb not gotten through the line with ease, it would have been a walk-in TD.

Even with the ILB holding on to Wright, he makes it into the end zone had #7 not assisted. (Still made it in IMO) Fant barely brushed the dude’s (#7’s) shoulder. He had no one else to block after that. It was a poor effort at the point of attack.

Why didn’t we use whitehead or pierce on the goalline ????
Not sure if anyone of you at the game noticed but Whitehead was stomping around having to be calmed down by teammates when he didn't go in on 4th and goal. Lol dude is probably hit the portal soon. Should have been smart and gone to linebacker.

That would at least explain it a little. But come on man. Give some effort on the most important play of the game

Yea he was rolled up on on the first down play and was limping around and bent over the next two plays and proceeding fourth down. I told my wife he needed to be off the field. Only reason I remember it.

I am not down on the coaching staff (yet). I think they are smart enough to get things fixed. Key will be getting some better players.
I feel the same way, mostly. I felt the game was called poorly on offense in stretches. Defensively I'm afraid we lack talent and looked horrible because of it, still not certain how we can battle with SEC teams all year and stink it up that bad.

One thing I hadn't considered was that while losing all those portal players hurt us this year it will likely hurt us just as much, possibly even more next year. I expect the defense to struggle next year.

Also worth adding, Purdue shredded MSU this year too. Similar passing numbers but without the 3 picks. That offense has been clicking like crazy for a couple months.

One thing that I’ve not seen mentioned and I’m not sure why: (Maybe I missed it) Hooker overthrew more bombs tonight than Milton did in his first two starts. Milton took a lot of grief. For Hooker, chalk it up as a “bad” night.

Our receivers were getting held all night. HH hit bombs early but when Purdue started holding and not getting called for it, our guys could get to the spots they should've been at. Maybe HH starts throwing shorter but then you risk an INT. The officiating affected every part of our game.

I think Tim Banks will be fine. I like the way he calls the defense, we just didn't have the horses to shut teams down this year. Lot of bend but don't break. You certainly don't fire him after 1 season with the deficiencies this defense had from a personnel perspective.
Every coach gets a pass year 1

I've said it all year, he can't scheme up a defense. He continues to sit back in coverage rushing 4 guys. We can't get pressure with 4 guys, especially when the other team has a minimum of 5 blockers. We've shown no ability to cover. One of the issues discussed is how many snaps the defense has to endure. With his defense you're going to die so why die by a 1000 cuts. If the other team is going to score anyway, why not gamble? Maybe force a mistake. If not at least the defense isn't out there for 10 min, 20 play drives.

I always judge coaches by what they accomplish with min tools. I'm sure Banks would be extremely successful at Bama. I respect coaches that do more with less. Heupel is a prime example of this. I 100% acknowledge his tool chest is less than stacked. But he's not doing more with less.

Everyone is saying we just need to get better players in and he'll be fine. Let's be honest, did wee really upgrade the talent on the defensive side of the ball? You've got highly ranked offensive players opening their eyes to what they see on O but I'm not seeing the same enthusiasm on the defensive side.

The old saying goes...

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

I’d rather not get involved in any of the coaching mess this year. We could always end up with someone worse. He gets a pass this year.

They do run it up the middle a lot and run it well….. look up the counters that ran at UCF…. Some of those designs were pretty impressive…… I’m sure he probably doesn’t have the talent to run his entire package yet.
Im hoping this off season i will have time to go back and watch more of his stuff from UCF. I like the offense but I want to see more from it

Is there a grading system for college officials? If not there needs to be one. Coaches and ADs should agree on who they want weeks before a bowl game. Somethings gotta give and UT gotta stop looking the other way or taking the high road. God knows we as fans are sick of it and saw flying mustard bottles because of it this season. 6 penalties to 15 is huge. Officials have their own stat line and yardage.

Hard for me to complain about the offense given the success we’ve had this year, but I do think it may need a little tweaking going forward. It’s nice to score in 2 plays but go ahead and figure on the other team coming back on a 8-10 play scoring drive and our defense being just as gassed as theirs is. Not going to go back and look but I think I could count on one, maybe two hands of how many 10+ play scoring drives we’ve had this year. That’s really not complementary football. Long term, I’m not sure that’s going to work against the better teams in this league who are two and three deep with talented SEC players.
This x100. I think the offense is good but we are going to have to slow it down at times. Getting into shootouts against teams with good defenses is not a great idea.
