I’d rather not get involved in any of the coaching mess this year. We could always end up with someone worse. He gets a pass this year.
I'm in no way advocating firing him. I agree we need the stability. I'm just acknowledging that I have no confidence that we'll have anything other than a below average defense while he's a coordinator here.

I'm effing miserable, going to get tested for covid tomorrow just to be safe but these symptoms seen much harsher than the mild cold do many reported. I literally can only sleep for 30 to 40 minutes at a time. Miserable even with meds.

Pray you feel better.

I've said it all year, he can't scheme up a defense. He continues to sit back in coverage rushing 4 guys. We can't get pressure with 4 guys, especially when the other team has a minimum of 5 blockers. We've shown no ability to cover. One of the issues discussed is how many snaps the defense has to endure. With his defense you're going to die so why die by a 1000 cuts. If the other team is going to score anyway, why not gamble? Maybe force a mistake. If not at least the defense isn't out there for 10 min, 20 play drives.

I always judge coaches by what they accomplish with min tools. I'm sure Banks would be extremely successful at Bama. I respect coaches that do more with less. Heupel is a prime example of this. I 100% acknowledge his tool chest is less than stacked. But he's not doing more with less.

Everyone is saying we just need to get better players in and he'll be fine. Let's be honest, did wee really upgrade the talent on the defensive side of the ball? You've got highly ranked offensive players opening their eyes to what they see on O but I'm not seeing the same enthusiasm on the defensive side.

The old saying goes...

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I disagree…. Based on the whole season….. I feel the defense outplayed their ability level…. We are lacking at every level…. Coach Heup stated that he wants an ultra aggressive defense but I feel that he and Banks don’t feel they have the personnel to do that yet….. they have been selecting blitzes at different key moments such as the kentucky game…. There were more than a few times we sent five pass rushers last night and the QB could have ordered pizza and played a game of madden before they got back there.

Everyone is still trying to make sense of this in traditional football analysis. Comparing results and decisions against football IQ. This is useless.

Tennessee got cheated.

Simple as that.

As long as there is subjectivity in football, in how games are called, in officiating and rules, in how matchups are chosen and champions are crowned, there will be weak links that can be exploited.

Add to it giant contracts for media, conferences, coaches and now players. Sponsorships looking for return on investment. And now with the infusion of legalized wagering.

The opportunity to move away from subjectivity and seek a more defined sport has been there for years, yet they choose to avoid that path. In every aspect.

Last night we were on the wrong end of a system that always leaves a way out for itself. Unfortunately the consumer and the players pay the price.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. Time will tell, hope I'm wrong.

Yeah….. it has to get better and will as we recruit and build more depth….. Purdue’s lineman were easily getting to the second level against our linebackers….. if you can’t stop Purdue’s rushing attack then you are not going to handle the rest of their offense.

They had less than 100 yards and 2.8 yards a carry. Right at the 2 leading rushers totals for the year. Not even close to the problem last night. Tbh wasn't a problem all year...we let QB's run free though. Bad DB play and pass rush is what was the problem. I'm not a fan of CB approach but we are going to have to upgrade the talent on the back end.

Glad to see people with a platform bigger than the RF on VolNation calling that stuff out.
I looked on Twitter last night and there are quite a few non-Tennessee media and other personalities saying it was an absolutely horrendous call. Even some rival teams alumni players. Of course, McElroy from SECN can suck it.

This x100. I think the offense is good but we are going to have to slow it down at times. Getting into shootouts against teams with good defenses is not a great idea.
Recruiting is going to have to hit another level as well. You’re not beating Alabama and Georgia if you’re not stacking top 5 classes on top of one another. You’re not going to out coach them, so your players better be just as good to have a chance. Going to be a lot of angry people around here when Georgia beats Alabama in a rematch. That machine in Athens will just be getting cranked.

This offense is judged on different metrics than most….. way too many dead possessions especially 2nd quarter through the 3rd…. Some of it was Hooker being inaccurate but I feel the biggest reason that we lost is Purdue dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage.
Hookers accuracy problems was the primary reason. He should have had 600 and 7.

- The defense is garbage, we have a couple of pieces, but that’s it. After last night, I think we need a transfer at every level on Defense. Hopefully we see Charles, Turnage, Mohan play more next year.

Felt like UK all over again. There's never an excuse as to why we give up mid-to-high 40s against the likes of UK and Purdue.

That said, we'd mostly be relishing in the win today, instead of looking at the negatives, had we not been screwed. I'm not going to let that stupid *** call define the perception of this game forever.

Bowl games have been shown to have zero bearing on the next season - so I'll gladly focus on what a good season we had and will have next year. Get transfers, get the defense right, and look forward to another strong season next year.

On Twitter and across all of CFB, it is 95%+ agreed upon that Tennessee got jobbed.

Did Purdue lose 30 to the transfer portal? Was it year one for Brohm?
No, but in case you missed it throughout the entire broadcast for five hours last night, they were super super super thin at every single position group across-the-board! And on top of that, we had a fall and stacked roster.

It takes players…& one thing we currently do not have is good players defensively.
