They had 78 yards rushing in the first half for 4.6 yards per carry….. we adjusted but that’s usually to the detriment of another area of the defense…. Probably helped their passing attack some.

That is probably true but the technique on the back end needs to be cleaned up badly. Everyone complained about the same issues on WM 1st go around. Need a big upgrade at DB though. Have to have the worst safety play in America. I like the Edge pickups so that should help next year.

I'm mostly over the loss this morning but I still hate the way that last possession was managed before OT. I admired the balls to go for the TD the first time, but why try again? Just get in FG range. And why wasn't a timeout called after the run play? We let 15 seconds bleed off the clock.
Piss poor clock management. Red flag till it ain’t.

I get your point on the OT calls, and maybe he makes a different decision if it’s not 5 hours into a bowl game that is ultimately just for the love of the game, but I was OK with being aggressive there.

Ainge on the radio last night after the game made a good point about the bombs on the last sequence of regulation. He was saying we don’t know what the call was, but Hooker has earned the right to read the defense and play it out, and on both deep shots, he had a man running wide open, so it’s hard to say he made the wrong read. Ainge did say also though that when you pull up from 40-feet late in a 2-point game, you better make the shot.

Now, I do think we should have called a TO after the first run on that drive. We did go very fast, but still lost 5-10 seconds.
I agree with point about running that close to goal line in OT. My ultimate point was not to complain too much about the play calling.

Moreover, the ****ing officiating...

25 hours before kickoff...

with all this money coming in on tennessee for the bowl game... +3 to -6.5 (almost 10 points in value)

don't be surprised if we get some wonky calls against us, at least early

holding and DPI specifically
Saw it coming from a mile away and chose to ignore it anyway. So stupid.

People complained about it but I went back and looked to see how bad it was….. I was shocked to find out that it was the best our secondary had performed since the early 2000’s…. Fans tend to live in the moment and overreact but the stats show that he was better than many thought….. we do need better secondary play but as of right now, I feel it is a talent issue but also enhanced by the lack of pass rush that our front four generates.

I do wonder if WB is being taught to face guard the WR and look back in comparison to most DBs of having your back to the WR's chest and look back. It may be a technique issue which may fall on WM.

Now all of these DPI on Burrell weren't good calls but a few I can see why the ref threw the flag.

Between the refs and the fake injuries, UT didn't stand a chance. I hate saying that, because I generally laugh when people claim the refs cost us a game, but this is undeniable.
Did you laugh after the Ole Piss and Pitt games? The penalty disparity and bad calls in the ACC ref crew Pitt game was just as bad as last night...and Ole Piss was...well you know what that was.

I laugh at people who don't see what is clear as day...these guys are not bad..they are bent.

Mullen is a goof. Heupel seems like a pretty cool dude but that doesn’t necessarily get it in recruiting. Garner is about the only guy on the staff who’s been there and done that on the trail.

I didn’t mean that being chilll is better for recruiting (though I would think it should be also). I just meant in the locker room and in general.

Crappy play calling and pathetic defense yesterday... Hooker picked the worst time to have a very bad game passing... never settled down... looked like Milton out there overthrowing TD's... too many bombs and not enough 10-15yd passes to move the ball but still eat up clock... Should have ended the game in regulation up by at least 2-3 TD's...
Still can't figure out what happened on defense and why we were constantly out of position in the secondary and clueless in other setups...

Portal musts-- QB, ENTIRE SECONDARY, DL that can get off blocks, RB that doesn't dance (Wright), 1-2 LB's, and a WR...

Very underwhelming and sub-par performance to end the season, both on the field and coaching IMO...

Still very excited about next season and the players and staff we have and will get, this seems to be the right fit for UT, but yesterday just sucked.

The defense caused him to move a lot in the pocket due to pressure so it goes hand in hand….. Hooker ran the ball 19 times last night…. The field conditions also didn’t help any.
I didn't say he played bad, I said he was off and didn't have near the game he could have had. I said he was off after the first two series when everybody was thinking he was playing great. He was a little off on throws and reads even when there was no pressure.

Penalty stats from this year:

Every game minus the two ACC officiated games:

526 total yards in penalties with an average of 47.8 yards a game.

The two games with ACC officials:

262 total yards in penalties with an average of 131 yards a game.

ACC officials accounted for 33% of UTs penalty yards and they only called 2 out of UTs 13 games played. Unreal.

Well he could have gone all Pig Howard but not sure that would have helped. Probably wanted to maintain ball security.
On 4th down? Why would you try to avoid a turnover? If you're not in the endzone on 4th down, you do whatever it takes to get there. How own player was trying to get him to stretch the ball out by pulling on him lol

Huh… did ACC officials make any other interesting calls in UT games this year?
