Everyone else has backed their stats as well…. You just choose to ignore them…. Half those stats you showed….. the coaches have stated don’t matter…… they want to cause negative plays….. succeeded in TFL’s….. average in sacks…… wanted to cause turnovers which they were average….. force field goals instead of touchdowns which they did for the most part in the bowl game until the putrid fourth quarter….. on the season I felt the defense played above their heads against Bowling Green, Pitt besides the second quarter in which they played backups…. It was also one of the last time that they used many of the backups…done what they should do against Tennessee tech…. Played way above their head against Missouri…. Played above their head against South Carolina….way above their head against Ole miss…played above their head against Georgia and Alabama…played good against south Alabama.
The bad games were Florida…. Atrocious against kentucky…. Slightly below average against vandy…. I feel they did decent against Purdue until the fourth quarter bc that qb lit up a lot more talented defenses than ours…
I am not overly confident in Banks but I also understand the situation.
I'm not saying I completely buy into what he's saying but there were some very odd blitz packages I noticed. When we did blitz it was typically a slow evolving stunt or bringing a lb around the outside edge. What I know from my limited football knowledge is you affect a pocket QB's throws with pressure from the middle where he sees it. When we did that we rushed throws and registered more success. When we sat back in coverage we got torched.I don’t think there’s a person with an IQ over 80 and a basic understanding of football that thinks our problem is a lack of “gambling”. Saying we have a talent and depth problem isn’t “blaming the kids”. It’s just stating a fact. They didn’t poop in the pool. They’re just not big or fast enough to keep up with good teams, and we don’t have the depth to play at full speed to play a hundred snaps.
Tired of the “buts” on Banks. His side of the ball seemed to get worse as the season went on. They didn’t get better and the O arguably lost more in off season. He consistently makes bad calls at the wrong times. It is what it is and he isn’t exactly recruiting lights out to make up for it. He is the weak link on the staff along with Martinez. If you can’t recruit and you can’t X and O, you shouldn’t be a coordinator.I like Tim Banks but I’m going to need him to do better. Second half of the season did not do what is required . Needs better pieces to work with obviously as well
so ready to see this coach succeed and make B6 bowl. all in...ready for nut kick.I like this one tooView attachment 425289
Well, he was something like 26-36 after 5 seasons. He had a losing record last year and going into this year I believe he still had an overall losing record there. If he was here he wouldn't have made it past that 5th season and certainly would not have lasted to see this year. And you would have been one screaming for him to be fired.I hate Kentucky. I’m just not in denial over what stoops has built.
Two ten win season in the past four years is nothing to sneeze at. Again - when is the last time we’ve done that? Two wins vs Florida the past four years. When is the last time we’ve done that.
And don’t look now but they’re out recruiting us as well.
Trust me - I detest Kentucky. Which is why I’m so frustrated. But Tennessee fans sound dumb trying to dump on them right now.
The defense was shorthanded going into the game so I’d say that was sorta the game plan. A. Taylor / B. Turnage / K. George Jr. I’m gonna say I think a QB. With 77% completion had to be another reason for sitting back and letting him throw to coverage. He had three INT. and it could’ve been five or more. They had some very fortunate things go there way NOT including penalties. I’m with you on not getting to the QB. I was pretty pissed about it and wondered where in the hell is such n such.I'm educated enough to know that sitting g back in zone and not covering anyone and putting all the pressure on a secondary that couldn't cover Betty White (RIP) while rushing 4 or 5 DL that can't get to the QB having to take on 5 OL and a tightend and/or a RB probably isn't the smartest thing to do. I know that sitting back and allowing a team to continuously beat your defenses' brains in by methodically marching down the field on 20 play 10 min drives consequently wearing your defense down making it easier and easier for them to do more of the same probably isn't all that bright. I know that other teams would love for their offense se to methodically move down the field keeping out high power offense over on the sidelines watching the defense continuously giving up 3rd down conversions, even long ones is a fabulous idea. I know continuing to do whatever you are doing that places your defense at over 100 in several statistical categories is probably not the best strategy. I know that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I'm tired of arguing with you folks. It's a pathetic showing on defense. If you're good with it or somehow can justify/excuse it, good for you. There is no arguing that the defenses was an embarrassment. You guys continually throw these kids under the bus and give these millionaire coaches a pass. I ask myself one question when judging coaches, did they produce a product that was greater than the sum of the parts? If you think he did, good for you. I think he failed miserably.
