Our offense is never going to allow us to have a highly ranked defense. We simply have our defense on the field for too long. Best we can hope for is to have an opportunistic defense that pressures the QB well and creates turnovers. Heupel was able to recruit those type of players pretty well at UCF. Let's see if he can do the same here.

I do not agree with this but it has some merit. The way to solve it is to build the talent to have a three deep. You get off the field more and you can put up 50-60 with this offense. For example, if we had 3!deep in players then you would see 60-27 scores instead of 45-13 results. It can work well but will take 5-6 years to build that roster.

Looks like some kind of alien that will latch onto your face and forcibly impregnate your mouth with its eggs that eventually rip their way out of your belly.

We give up 4th and 28 rushing 3. Banks blitzed 4 straight downs and allowed zero completions, getting to Levis 4 times forcing errant throws. Then he files those away and I'm not sure I saw him call them again. Not saying he never blitzed but not at that level.
Regardless if a coach has great players or not, poor planning and poor play calling can't be blamed on prior coaching staffs.

Uh, none of us were not given a vote for or against NIL. So it matters now whether you are for it or against it. In fact, UT and other schools were not given a vote either. It was all because of legal/judicial issues that NIL exists. The AA rolled because they had the losing hand.

Just my take - ignore and move on if you don't want to read.

The bag man will still exist, there will be less attention spent on him, not more. NIL will also exist in a growing way that becomes part of the business decision of the player/family. The portal is CFB's free agency. Barring governing body actions yet untaken, the AA's role as enforcer is essentially over. That falls back on the schools/conferences. The SEC office is in Birmingham. So there will be none for the SEC elites and hammer downs for the rest of us.

JMO - the only way this ends well for us, for UT, is as the black hats who still play within the rules. Innovation and taking the program to the edge of lawlessness and rules breaking without crossing over. We have the offensive genius in charge to do that. He makes lemonade out of lemons as we all now know. We need the same on defense. Baylor is the prime example. Speedy secondary, bone crushing front 6. They do it without 5 stars. Make teams pay the price for playing you. They need to regret it the day after like a NY celebration's bad hangover.

Then we need UT officials, Boyd and White in particular, to call out the officiating and preferences Sankey and crew always give to their buds. Make it painful for them to even try to publicly sanction us. As an example UT has a great graphics/video/media team. Use them. Highlight reel the corruption and let them know we have the receipts. We will never be what we could be by playing along and getting pats on the head for being good boys and girls by the SEC. Black hats while playing by the rules.

Let’s blame it on coaches that didn’t recruit a single player on the field and lost 33 scholarship players to transfer portal.
How do you guys not realize when the 1st team comes out to rest or has to play tired there’s a huge drop off. We have to have depth to rotate and stay fresh. It isn’t a single coaches fault that’s is here now who has anything to do with that.

This is true. We seem to play pretty good defense through the first 2 quarters most games in which we aren't playing a Heisman trophy finalist/winnerI. It's the 2nd half when players are gassed and have to rotate out more that we start seeing most of the points given up.

I get it, no one wants Banks to be a failure. I don't want him to fail either but stats don't lie. They are what they are. You can try to justify and rationalize all you want. Whether it's roster, fast offense, strength of opponents, whatever. The fact is the defense ranked in the lower half in most statistical categories for all of college football. Like I've said numerous times, I don't think he'll get it done here. I desperately want to be wrong because the last thing we need is to be firing coaches. Having said that, I have zero confidence our defense will improve significantly under his direction. I said the same thing about the guru and had similar responses from my friends here.
Sorry saw this was water already under the bridge.

I don't like being critical much, but this is fantasy land. For one, we'd have to have every recruit be a stud, and two, we'd have to have an enormous amount of defensive scholarships to be that deep. We aren't going to recruit like bama and Georgia any time soon, so this kind of thinking is unrealistic at best. And if we did, we'd still wear them out with the pace our offense sets. In the Kentucky game alone, how long was our defense on the field? 43 minutes or something?

I'm not sure how it can be ignored that 4 teams we lost too were or are ranked in top 10, had 10+ win seasons, and have depth/talent along both LOS, not to mention most important part, QB play.

Florida aside, who was ranked #11 at time of our annual waxing, we played three heistman contenders and nearly beat two. And had lead against arguably best team in Country for 45 minutes or so.

33 players, that's what we lost. Mostly on defense. No one wanted this DC job, so we overpaid for a guy with no DC experience. Now other teams are interviewing him for HC??? Are you kidding me??

We had 1 deep at DL, LB, and End. Criticism of that is a farking joke.

Opening day is a long way off but look forward in seeing who serves crow and who eats crow !
My money is on those that don’t believe this AD and coaching staff is the real deal YET!
Our DL and DB coach have half a Century of experience combined. Have made a living finding diamonds in the rough and getting them to the league.

We are in good hands. im glad they arent taking people just to take them.

Had bowel surgery Tuesday which turned into thromboss hemorrhoids and had to go back to the ER Friday to remove them. Still dealing with issues. It was a joke to make light of my week.
Never had the bowel surgery but did have the thrombosis hemorrhoids removed. Talking about painful. They gave me mepergan and I told them I don’t take pain meds. They told me yeah you do. I am so glad I had them. The first bowel movement was the worst but those that followed for a week weren’t much better. I held them back and they told me not to. Bad mistake. I really hate you are having to deal with all of that and praying you get well soon.

So basically, we're down to two bowls. The Texas Bowl on Tuesday and the championship game a week from tomorrow. Do we see an influx of transfers into the portal this week?

Thank you! Didn’t give me any pain meds so I’m on Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Just sitz bath, fiber diet (already on from surgery), and normal over the counter stuff. Hoping in a week or two, I am feeling a lot better.

When the free agency, I mean portal, opens after the Championship what do we have to offer a few DL, OL, DB's and LB's. It will take NIL money and who do we have to pay it. It is just a matter of time before they start advertising for players to join a college team.

I can see it now........Come Play at Podunk University. Receive up to $ 50.000 a year (depending on ability and popularity with other schools) free tickets and lodging plus transportation to every game for your family and up to 4 friends. Free membership to our exclusive club of special people and a car(new or used depending on ability, need and interest from other schools). Be a part of something SPECIAL and call us NOW !!!!

We could get the girl from QVC to be our spokes person !!!!

Justin Williams, Tyre West, James Pearce all disagree.
Normally when you talk of "buying" players it's in relation to 5*s. I like our class and the players we got, but I'm not sure how you're really countering the "we suck at NIL" argument? I mean, Walter Nolen was in our own backyard and got away. Apparently, we couldn't compete with A&M's buying power. And damn, what a spending spree they had. The truth seems to be we're not great at it, but we're also not the worst. If we want to move up the ranks, we have to get better. It's one thing to watch A&M, Bama, and Georgia outsell us, but to also see Kentucky, Mizzou, and Auburn do it? Tennessee has to find a way to compete in cash flow when it comes to recruiting IF we want to climb back to the top. Or we can just be content being a mid-tier SEC team. Kentucky, Mizzou, and Auburn could still very easily implode, but Bama, Georgia, and A&M are not going to stop slinging that cash. So do we want to be in that upper tier with them or not? If we do, then big boosters need to step up their game.

It’s totally new. Guys had to sit a year when they transferred, so Bama and UGA weren’t plucking guys from other schools to play right away. Very good players that Bama and UGA want just go to the NFL after 3 years. Unintended consequences.
The one time transfer needs to be scrapped...it is nothing but a tool for abuse.

I get why people wanted it, but yes. Unless a player had a legit reason to leave they should have to sit. I would also say, they can one time transfer if their position coach leaves that way there is some fairness with all the coaching movement.
