Dang gators added Bateman former UNC and Army DC as ILB coach. Yes his defense sucked this year but was solid before that and he can recruit. Stout get as assistant. Napier has an elite defensive coaching staff. Offensively……..well that is to be determined especially considering he thinks he is a QB guru all of a sudden
Will see. UT hired the greatest DC in history as a head and boy that worked out well too. The defense was awesome and the offense was on another level too.

If fans cared and demanded that officials enforce the rules then it would be similar to voters demanding a prosecutor enforce the rules.

The logic of the post I responded to is still the same. He said that rules should not be enforced because everyone cheats anyway. In fact, he said that UT should cheat MORE if it results in wins because "everyone cheats". If you want a level playing field then you have to support enforcement of the ruleson EVERYONE.

I wish someone would step out of line, assure their program is clean, then start reporting every case of cheating they run across.

I was actually at a game ages ago when Danny Ford confronted Monte Kiffin after their game. Kiffin had reported Ford for recruiting infractions. IIRC, a big kid from Lumberton, NC had been given a girl by Clemson on his recruiting visit... then he told NCSU about it. That's ugly and no one "likes a snitch" but if we want a clean game and a level playing field for programs then it has to start with having sensible rules then enforcing them to the letter.
Danny Ford was trash that learned his trade in Tuscaloosa.

The NCAA could affect cheating be consistent enforcement of their rules and voiding wins and championships. They could also hold conference commissioners and AD’s accountable.

If I were in charge of the NCAA I would be opening a satellite office next door to the SEC office in Birmingham, Alabama.

One other scenario on the self imposed 10 scholarship reductions that would actually make sense and be good for TN is that it could have been for the 2021 season. The 2021 season runs through the spring of 2022. That would mean UT would have to be at or under 75 scholarships from Fall of 2021 through Spring of 2022. We are at 75 right now for spring if you include all the projected EEs, Neyor and A. Solomon (doubt if he returns for spring). If we did self impose 10 scholarship reductions for 2021 and we are currently at 75 for the spring then any other high school or transfer player would have to enroll after the spring semester.

I had previously thought that UT did NOT self impose any penalties for the 2021 season because they were not completely finished with the investigation. However the article posted below said TN self imposed NO recruits could visit for the 2021 Bowling Green game. So they probably did self impose some scholarships for 2021 also. How Many? We can only guess for now.

One year later, Tennessee football infractions case could hinge on NCAA policy changes

i care, but we've tried that.

again rome wasn't built overnight. we've made a lot of strides... cant expect to be sec title contender Thanos style.

like losing weight first 10 is easy, second 10 is whole helluva lot harder.

last time I was in atlanta watching Ainge, Ainge was in my twenties. 🤦🏼‍♂️
I don’t expect SEC Championships over night. Never said I expected that. But doing it “the right way” with kids that aren’t as talented as what our opponents are getting will make our ceiling maybe 10-3 on a great year… I hope they’re just saying BS just because we’re being investigated. Don’t expect this “doing it the right way strategy” academic first to win you SEC Championships a few years down the line much less national championships. Do people think Bammer cares about “doing it the right way” how about Georgia? LSU? Florida? Aggie? The barn? Not to mention we’re adding Oklahoma and Texas… lol. The “doing it the right way” will only last so long until people get tired of getting their heads bashed in by the SEC Elite on a yearly basis. Hopefully Heupel can power past this model. Really think he can bring success if given a full deck…

It’s just all frustrating man.

I'm not as content or as patient as some, but I think breaking out of midpack will come down to the coaches-- their hunger to win, their aggressiveness in making the changes they need to win faster and their willingness to bring in new people and embrace new ideas to move beyond plateaus.

Mark Richt got UGA to consistent wins, division titles and conference championships. That was good for a while. Then UGA wanted more. They fired Richt and Kirby took them to the next level. He went about it a different way. UGA changed.

Phillip Fulmer won a NC at UT. He was hungry-- some say he was ruthless-- then he got complacent. He made some bad hires, had some bad losses, wasn't as committed, and the Fulmer way was no longer a winning way. Nobody since has duplicated his success. Have they been determined enough, skilled enough and focused enough? No. Did they surround themselves with the right people? No.

Pat Summitt won "the right way" at UT. Pat was hungry, she was driven, she worked exceptionally hard and recruited the best players she could get within her standards. She set her own goals and made her own luck. Holly couldn't duplicate Pat's way. She couldn't change, and she couldn't grow into a new role. I think Kellie can, if she's willing to make some changes.

Rick Barnes understands "the right way." But is he hungry enough, is he driven enough, is he willing to make the changes to get over the hump? What is he most motivated to do? Is he focused on hanging banners and willing to work within the current landscape to do it?

There are many ways to work within a system and rise above it-- even if the system itself has inherent flaws and needs to evolve. You win with people. Pat said it, and she was right. UT has implemented a foundation, defined a culture and is giving the marquee HCs the resources and infrastructure to build successful programs. It's up to the coaches to build with people and win with them. UT is a school that can win, though they haven't made it the easiest place to win at the highest level. I think some of our programs are closer than others-- and that opinion correlates to the HC.
I can't disagree with any of this. And I think it's more than obvious that for the better part of the last 15 years people have definitely been the issue... At all levels.

At this point, if they have purpose/culture as the driving factor in what decisions are made, and how we make them, then they're already ahead of the curve compared to most of the folks we've had in and out of here during that time.

It may not fit with my, or yours or anyone's patience level as to when we get where we want to be, but at least it seems they've picked a direction.

And for now I'll take it. Seems to be working for most all the other athletic programs...I think it will work for football too... Hopefully sooner than later...

It lowkey pisses me off that we are self imposing, the ncaa will not give two s**ts about what we self impose when they bring the hammer down on us. It’s like you pick a fight at school and you suspend yourself from school hoping the principal doesn’t do anything to you, it wont do s**t so idk why we are sucking the ncaas d**k so much.

Does appear to be an abnormal amount of coddling afoot.

What was the purpose of the "internal" "investigation"? To fire Fulmer? I am not asking about the publicized purpose. It makes no sense to burn the house down over corn pone's buyout. Also, "doing it the right way" is just imbecile politician speak. Were they able to fire everyone above janitor?

to fire cornbread with cause

What we need to do is offer transfers “walk on” spots and then give them NIL deals to pay for their school.

While possible, I've argued this is a rougher road than some may expect.

1) P5 scholarship caliber players do NOT want to be considered walk-ons. It is a major putdown for them. Still remember when Jashon Robertson was a blueshirt...he hated even that classification.

2) Because of (1) and the fact that they'll be able to get a scholarship and even NiL elsewhere...you will end up paying a BIG premium...on top of tuition...board...standard NiL...everything else.

Just a roundabout guess, but a ~low 4* kid that might cost 50k in NiL to get here would probably cost $200k. Complete estimates ofc, but just as a point. You're talking about way overspending, so it's a tough ask without having unlimited funds.

Dang Weezer, you are starting to sound like a broken record. Quit worrying so much. Your posts are beginning to be very catbonesque, or others that just can’t quit beating the same dead horse… you are a much better poster than that…

The portal may not be the answer to all your prayers (or angst).

These coaches developed some players in a short time into phenomenal players. IE Theo Jackson. Maybe, just maybe they can do it with the younger players too…
Seeing some of these old uncles argue at each other (I’m one of them btw) is so Thanksgiving. Can’t we all just get along for a change?
