We don't have the talent on campus to win with a Stetson at QB.

You just made the statement that the difference between good and great teams was elite QB play, and that we could be better if HH was better. Stetson Bennett isn't elite but GA clearly is, so how does that work? HH is fine and could QB any elite team. Better QB play won't help us, better OL and defense will.

Yeah, I tend to agree with this as well. I think our defense (more than our offense) was impacted by the lack of depth. Couldn't rotate as many fresh legs in and they were already on the field more than any other defense in the SEC.
They tried using the second quarter to play back ups and it was a mess…. See the Pittsburgh game so they quit rotating the more it went on.

The offense is built to scheme guys wide open and run the ball period.... Hooker sure as heck beats someone who can't hit the wide open target like some of the guys we've trotted out there in the last few years (i.e.- Guarantano, Milton(he could improve), Dormandy). On top of that he can make things happen with his legs so there's that too

Exactly. #11 in rushing at nearly 218 ypg with average at best SEC RB talent against perhaps the toughest schedule in CFB. #7 in scoring O.

It's just not that hard to understand IMO.

The question is only, do you want an O that does those things using somebody else who failed's, roster? The answer is obviously - yes. Then continue working and add talent to the roster who can do those things even better.

Check.

It's about the D. Period. Well, it's also about the officials. Right, Danny?

Speaking of....my not to distant future!

My golfing buddies and I definitely resemble this. I think I will steal it.

One of us - "That might have been the best shot I have ever hit - if I knew where it went."

Responses in our group - "Well, don't bother looking in the hole." Or, "Well, don't bother looking in the fairway." Or, "The pond/creek/bunker/woods is over there." Or, "You might want to wear your glasses instead of leaving them in the cart." Or, "TWSS."

Did I just hear AP say he doesn’t see us taking any transfers until after spring ball?
Here are the highlights of a relevant discussion in LWS's 2022 Roster thread in the FF that might shed some light on this topic:
I updated and removed PWO JT Carver. I had understood he was on scholarship but have been convinced he is not. puts over all roster at 82 and the new semester roster at 75 for the January 24th school date.

I've learned that Tennessee is not expected to bring in anymore transfers until after the spring UNLESS they have additional players go into the portal between now and the 24th. They don't have room.

That is really confusing to me because they COULD go up to 85. I was told they want be under the 85 for spring to self impose scholarship reductions but no one seemed to know the number. but surely its not 75.
Is it possible that TN self imposed 10 scholarship reductions for the 2021 season? I had previously thought they did not self impose any penalties for 2021 because the investigation was not completed. But the Yahoo article about the possible NCAA penalties mentioned that UT self imposed NO recruits for the 2021 Bowling Green game. So it is possible they self imposed some scholarship reductions for 2021 as well.

If they did self impose 10 scholarship reductions for 2021... then I believe they would have to remain at or under 75 scholarships for the spring of 2022 as well. Then they could go back to a full 85 for the Fall 2022 semester. This would be pretty smart by the coaching staff if this is what they have done.

Edit: Since you removed Carver .. our numbers match exactly .. so they must be correct :~)
I understand Tennessee has asked the NCAA to give them a 14 scholarship reduction for 2021 because they had 14 open scholarships they could have used. Remember Super Seniors didn't count. They do not have a response from the NCAA on this.

My understanding is that roster reductions beginning with January would be for 2022. The term used was, take them all right now or scattered them over a few years and appears they are taking them all right now. The 10 is speculative but if you factor in the roster is at 75 for spring and they are saying they can take no more portal players right now until some players leave from that 75, it is easy to assume the reduction is 10.

It has been stated, they expect additional attrition after the spring semester and hope at that time to bring in 5 or 6 portal players. They could very well know right now of players planning to transfer but those players need the spring semester to have the proper credits to transfer.

I may have already stated this but will again. I don't know, and don't believe anyone posting on message boards, what the violations by Pruitt and staff were. Only Tennessee knows. The imposing they are doing I might feel was excessive or not enough if I knew the violations. Until we hear what those violations are, we are in the dark on why such hard penalties.

It was stated today or yesterday, reductions will be more than 5. I'm assuming its 10 for reasons stated above.

Thats where we disagree, I'm sure you'll be surprised. Better QB play can get us to 10 wins. Getting to that Elite level takes us to 12

Our biggest issue was depth….. if the guys that weren’t ready last year can give us minutes or our freshman can give adequate minutes off the bench then the defense will be improved.
Should also be noted several transfers (eg: Kamal Hadden and B. Turnage) didn’t arrive until summer so this will be their first spring in the scheme. Expect to see improvement in the D based on familiarity and practice for the young talent.

Based on these posts - a lot of it makes sense for what we are actually seeing. The February signing day will tell us a little more.

Might be best for folks to hold their fire on Plowman, Boyd and White.

i think the only kid we're actively pursuing is Moten, and if he goes to Miami, we may just be standing pat.

i think the spring transfers are going to tell the tale, both in and out.

agree on the holding fire. no reasons to really consider that right now. they've picked a path, and whether you disagree with it or not, at least there's a direction, and that's driving the decision making, culture etc. it's working in the other sports. Football is, and always was, going to take a little longer....and that's just to get to the point where we can compete on something resembling a level playing field with the likes of a Bama or Georgia.

the long game. requires some patience and discipline.

As long as Will Wade still coaches I wouldn’t self impose ****.

Someone else pointed it out, and I agree. The self impose is for the "with cause" firing court case IF Pruitt actually tries to follow through.

I hate it, but at the same time we all knew the rebuild would be challenging in the first 2 to 3 years...so I say take all the lumps now. That way in year 4 when we're in Atlanta there won't be any excuses or bellyaching

Get the giant #12 w/extra cheese, cut into fours and thank me later. Don’t recommend Mike’s Way going that route.
I dove into the depths of this thread, back to the days of us anxiously awaiting our big win over Purdue, and celebrating the life of Betty White, to find this. I am eating this today

In college athletics.....If you aint cheating, you're getting left behind.
Sad but true.

I wouldn't say you get left behind. Depends on how you define that I guess. Reduce and possibly almost eliminate your opportunity to win a national championship, yes. But you can be a relevant program that wins lots of games and even has a chance to do something special if everything breaks your way.
