Gotcha.I don't have all the details, and I'm not sure that's who Hubbs was referring to. It was a messy situation. The search committee (minus Charlie) recommended Currie to the board, with Dr. Davenport's endorsement. Dr. Davenport wanted Currie and she had the votes. The board needs a quorum to meet with a majority vote to carry. Not every member votes, especially when there's an unscheduled meeting called.
I don't know how the votes played out, but it wasn't unanimous. Charlie may not have been part of the vote or he could have voted no by proxy. I don't know. I remember Peyton Manning got stuck in the middle, though, and had to tell Fulmer, who thought he had the job. Not UT's finest hour, though it ended up working out well for Fulmer.
Fool me once...
Knoxville fire officials and university police were on campus after Kiffin's announcement as students burned mattresses and gathered around the athletic department building in hopes of blocking Kiffin from leaving campus. It was not clear if Kiffin was still on campus at the time.
"I think the students have had kind of a violent reaction to that, and a lot of them are disheartened, upset and feel betrayed that less than a year in that he would be leaving and taking off," Knoxville Fire Department spokesman D.J. Corcoran said.
"The Rock," a giant boulder on campus where students often paint "Happy Birthday" messages, had obscenities directed toward Kiffin. Students tried to enter the room where Kiffin read his statement, holding a sign that read "Go home traitor. It's time," mimicking a campaign the university used to promote Kiffin when he was hired.
It's crazy to think UT, UF, aTm, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Auburn could all be looking for new coaches. Though Auburn would be nuts to fire Malzahn this year, and I think Arky might keep BB another year to avoid the gridlock.
Who you got pegged as the culprit? One major take away from the Gruden rumors of 2017 is that some segment of boosters has utilized the fan base, and social media as a leverage tool. There is only one booster I see as brash enough and feverish enough about football to fuel that trend. Slick move even if it motivates Curry to hire someone like Frost so he can have his own agenda.
I do think Currie has played it relatively well by calling the bet repeatedly. He can get the Boosters to continue to raise the pot on their own without showing his hand. Just hope he doesn't leave us all out to dry when the river comes.
I witnessed a qrf level assault when some connections were discussed. This is real this time. Real people with real money have ponied up and we are pawns on the board. I certainly hope that G thread pushes us straight to a huge hire as the egos press on in some legit high stakes poker.
Not even sure what you are actually saying

I think he is saying that the boosters aren't exactly on the same page and the ones with less influence are trying to use the fanbase to put pressure on the others. It also appears that the "less influential" boosters have this time around come to the table with quite a bit of money so it's not like they can be easily dismissed. Somebody is going to have to match or better their offer. Whoever wins - by inference - there's going to be a pile of money on the table to throw at a top tier candidate. That's my reading. The quick reaction force assaults are an attempt to control the narrative and set expectations, sort of information warfare I guess. The only real question is whether or not both sides are using the Russians. jmo.
Are they not on the same page..or are they and they're pressuring the AD?
