It depends on whether you believe they were trolled. You believe every word that comes from Hubbs mouth, you believe every word that comes from Hyams mouth. Who's really getting trolled?

Look I get it. No one believes that anything awesome is possible in regards to UT football. So you lower your expectations to coaches that are perenial 8-4, 9-3. Or coaches that have had success for 2/3 of one season. You justify it by saying UT is historically 8-4 team, live with it. You say that the Vols don't have the means to hire a top tier coach and we should get excited for another roll of the dice. The last 10 years will do that for you.

Also, many feel jilted because the way it went down last time. I get that. I understand the fool me once way of thinking.

When I say you, I'm talking about anyone that thinks there's zero chance that Gruden is our coach. The only reason ou think that is you refuse to think anything awesome could happen here. You prepare yourselves to get excited about another single or double when some are looking for a homerun.

Like I said, I'm skeptical that they can pull it off but at the same time I don't think it's stupid to believe it could happen as well.

What’s even funnier is that every team in the historical top 15 is a 8-9 win team in their history.

Same response, if he can compete with Saban(which I think he can given UT's resources), then it is not.

I guess I just see it differently. I'm not paying TOP money for hope. I need to know my return on investment is there. Even Gruden, I wouldn't offer more than Saban makes. Paying more does not ensure results. Its especially easy to do when you're not the one writing the check.

If you wouldn't offer Gruden that much either, then I understand where you are coming from. At least you are consistent.

As for hope, rebellions are built on hope.

Frost loves his staff, I would offer him 4-4.5 mil and a 5.5 mil staff budget so he can pay his guys

Call me crazy but I think this was the plan the whole time but Florida opening up may change it. It's hard for us to compete with them if they're matching money.

That's a blanket statement that use to be a given but I'm not so sure in today's college football landscape, KV.

It seemed like just yesterday the UCFs, USFs and FAUs of the world were cute little programs. These cute little programs now feature Charlie Strong, Lane Kiffen and Scott Frost. As long as these smaller programs continue to roll out coaches of this caliber, the days of dominance by UF, FSU and/or the U are going to be harder and harder to achieve.

Maybe all the junk about McElwein and the death threats were really nothing but noise. The truth is UF probably realized they might easily have the weakest coach in the state.

Wait, did we just disagree on something without freaking out on each other?

*quietly whispers - "I think all of the ff crazies distracted by the Gruden Threads... is this the safe space?*

But for real, though. I imagine a baller like Frost not being intimidated by too many situations.

Probably reasonable. Haven't really looked into his coaches. Not sure he has million dollar coordinators, but at least worth a discussion.

Here is what I see as the risk associated with each of these guys (again, JMO):

Kelly (recruiting, culture, longevity, NCAA)
Frost (experience, maturity, recruiting, Nebraska)
Kiffin (maturity, burned bridges, NCAA)
Calhoun (recruiting, success)
Doeren (experience, success)
Houston (experience)
Morris (experience, success)
Taggart (success)
Campbell (experience, recruiting, success)
Tee Martin (experience, success)
JBC (experience, success, recruiting)

We are not in a place where we need to take a risk. We need a sure thing.

You forgot Gruden, literally never had success as a college coach, and he's never dealt with all the academics, boosters, and 18 year old kids that college coaching requires.

Which coaches would you, to varying degrees, be happy with?

Just brainstorming off the top of my head but:

Gruden
Patterson
Gundy
Frost
Fuente
Mullen
Taggert
Strong
Patterson
Campbell

Could get behind all those, I know there’s more I’ve missed

It is hard for me to imagine that a coach who has been making millions for several years, would look at 2 situations and say, "Well, I love it here, but I am only making 4 million a year here and I could make 4.6 million there. So, I better pack up and go there. I need the money." I am saying this as a general statement about life, not about any particular situation. How could they possibly tell the difference in their life, based on that "small" change in their bank account?

Also if anyone is worried about Campbell’s buyout, I wouldn’t. I mean if we really offered Gruden 10 mil PER then I think a 9 mil buyout for a 3-4 mil coach is not unreasonable
