LWS said on Volquest that Debord was big in terms of getting Allen and Richmond. I'm assuming that is the same LWS as here.

Debord is the key to getting Allen and Richmond...

Speculation time. If it's DeBord (what a name to do some word play with), is that a way to keep Z in the fold? Older guy that could mentor him into the OC job at some point. Or is Z too close to flying the coup as it is?

Who's to say butch doesn't hire debord, release Mahoney, promote Sheridan to qb, and have azzani as co coordinator with debord for a few years. Recruiting finishes with Allen, Richmond. And patrick

What purpose would a smokescreen serve?

To not disrupt other coaches' recruiting efforts this close to NSD?

What I mean by smokescreen is that CBJ really doesn't intend to hire DeBord. Instead he's probably seeking his input while at the same time getting his name out there to help him land a coaching job.

Well if this is true, kick Mahoneys azz to the curb, let DeBord coach OL, promote Z to OC.

I've given up on any chance that jones will make a big hire outside of his circle.

Honestly, how bad can debord be? He has a few rings and has been in coaching for a long time. All he has to do is study Butch's playbook and call plays. He has a ton of experience. Maybe he would also be the key to getting big time o lineman

Something is still up that we don't know about. Highly doubt we make a hire that leaves us without a full-time QB coach. Especially with 3 true frosh QB's.

If that happens I think once the shock of hiring a guy that hasn't been an oc for nearly a decade wears off it'll be a decent hire for no other reason than help on the o-line. Every time there's an opening I allow myself to think maybe just maybe they'll go the up and coming route this time until reality backhands me and reminds me that's probably not going to happen

Fortenberry says depending on the circumstances, Roy Manning could join the staff in a quality control type of role.

I also asked Fort a couple of questions on Debord.

1. The guy is overseeing Michigan's olympic teams right now. Why does Butch have so much interest in him?

"They worked closely together at Michigan has a ton of respect for him. I think he fits the mold in terms of being someone that knows what Butch wants and can hit the ground running and not have to really learn Butch's way of doing things."

2. Your thoughts on him as a recruiter?

"Haven't heard much so still trying to get a grasp. He was recruiting coordinator at Michigan when he returned in the 2000s but I don't know if that was just a title for more money or what."

3. Your estimate on possible salary... 550k per year?

"I'm not sure right now. I think that depends on maybe what some of the NFL jobs are offering."

4. Why is NFL experience so important to Butch?

"I don't know if that factor is as important as the familiarity part. The NFL part just usually means he's a pretty good coach."

5. He's known for being more of an Offensive Line guy... Definitely not a QB coach. How would that work out?

"Great question. I'm not sure."

The problem is they are from nearly twenty years ago and his career has done nothing but nosedive since then. He hasn't been a coordinator since '07 and hasn't even coached in 3 years... Butch also mentioned he wanted a good QB coach; DeBord coached QBs all of two seasons, 30 years ago. If he is brought in, who coaches QBs? Perhaps Mahoney gets ****canned and replaced with a QB guy? :dunno:

My thought as well. Debord doesn't fit the mold of what I was expecting for a OC/QB coach. At all.

I was thinking they promote I think his name is nick Sheridan? He seems to have a good standing and from what I've read is an up and comer in coaching
