I think most people are quickly jumping on the "he's terrible" bandwagon without really knowing a ton about him. That's a little unfair if you ask me. If he walked into Butch's office and convinced our head coach that he was the guy, then I'm good with it. This program is Butch's baby. He's done some great things to turn us in a good direction since he got here. I expect that to continue no matter who this hire is. He's not about to give this job to some hack who can't get it done. Butch has proven to be as cutthroat as they come.

You can call me a sheep if you want, but I think Butch is great. I'm proud he's our coach. He's a wonderful ambassador for our university and is bringing in talent we haven't seen around here since the good old days. I trust him.

And the truth is even if I didn't, it wouldn't matter. He would still hire whoever he was gonna hire without any say from me. It's more fun to look for silver linings than to assume the worst all the time for me. But to each his own.

That budget thing is what I'm talking about. People don't realize the money that rolls in over there. The only reason Hart wants a winner over there is to maximize profits. If he can fill the stadium with a 5 million dollar staff he has no incentive to spend 6 million. He can raise ticket prices by $1 and raise almost a million bucks. If he can get this guy on the cheap it's just more money in his AD pocket.

UTs finances were in much worse shape than some realize. They are getting better but still far from where they should be. I think fans either don't know or just choose to ignore it. Hart sends you a letter asking if you are good for 25K so they can pool the funds to hire a new coach and the casual fan just screams "spend more" . Its just not always as it seems.

I realize how bad they were. But this is how TN works. Always has, always will. Hire on the cheap, fans get exited, more ticket sales, more donations because of the new energy, coach flames out after 3-4 years, coach gets fired, wash rinse repeat.
