I really hope what eazy just said doesn't come to fruition. I'm already kinda let down with the hire but if Dobbs talks during the presser I'll be even more so. I held out hope for precious longer than I should have and will give butch the same treatment but this hire would be a head scratcher

The public perception is meaningless. People will ***** and moan, and then they'll get over it. Having Dobbs speak does sound strange unless this guy changed his life in the past 48 hours or something though.

I love Butch Jones and I've always considered myself far from a "negavol" but I feel even more sick now than I did 6 hours ago when I heard DeBord was hired.

Maybe it's crazy, but just once I would like to see UT make a hire like this where I'm not, "WTF is this guy?!" Granted I like Butch a lot thus far, especially with energy he has brought to the program, but I would like him to hire someone that has been an OC recently.

Debord helped usher in spread at a couple programs and has faced every kind of defense imaginable.

SOmeone felt it odd that we would lose coach Azzanni for a guy who hasn't coached in a while.

Rucker said-- Unless DeBord is being brought in to transition Azzanni into the OC spot.

Truth right there... The way that was written by Brice tells me all I need to know. DeBord has a job, exactly what job and what responsibilities remain to be seen.

If they hire a new OC, wouldn't you want to know what Dobbs thinks about him? Why not let him talk before then to say what his meeting with the new OC was like, etc. (I would call that good marketing).

As for others, you see this all the time. What if Tom Brady gives a quote endorsing DeBord as a great coach/teacher. Jon Gruden, those in the Mike Holmgren tree that DeBord has been around.

If I were Jones and I'm vetting this guy out, I'm calling everyone I can to get their thoughts on him maybe even Fulmer who nearly hired him here instead of Clawson. That's the vetting out process. I'm sure that's what Jones is doing and I would expects he's doing it with other candidates as well.

What if what Dobbs had to say had zero to do with DeBorg and recent events? What if it's something that happened in his life personally that did not involve UT? What if it was something from his SO year in HS where DeBorg spoke to a group of kids about growing up with a handicapped parent? Maybe the kid would like to speak about the man and it's not even football related?

All a sudden his speaking takes on a new meaning.

Bro, our agenda is to score a lot of points. Based on his body of work, which is the only thing you can really base anything on, most of us are not encouraged with the potential hire.

Seemingly worse, Tennessee is a pretty hot coaching destination now, given recent recruiting and improvement. It appears we could hire an OC with more OC success, given reports.

Admittedly, none of us know enough about football to make these hires, and there are other issues (staff dynamics, position coaching, salaries, philosophy).

That being said, I'm just not impressed, and will gladly accept being wrong. Bring on the yards :hi:
