He was touted as a pro style QB with the ability to tuck it and run. He had 260 or so yds rushing his Sr. season and 5 TDS I believe.

I will defer to you. The one at 0:33, when the play happened I told my son he should've pulled it, then when they showed the replay I said, nope, he did the right thing.

So how often do we leave the end unblocked but it isn't an option play? We only had 6 option plays the whole game?

Good questions. We won't leave the backside end unblocked unless it is an option play. It may look like it at first, but usually the TE/H is pulling from the play side to block him. Yes, I believe I only saw 6, but if you see something you think might have been one, feel free to post the time stamp. I will say that on our outside zone plays where the whole OL goes the same direction and the RB is running towards the sideline (see 1:04), it looks like QD could run all day, but there is no read on that play.

Those outside zone plays are probably what I'm seeing. I would like to learn more about the nuances and specifics of our offense.

The 2nd carry for Dormady was actually an inverted veer and not a read option. Nice wrinkle for the offense.

You are a good poster, but I need to correct you here. Dormady doesn't decide to keep it unless his read key tells him to. Now every shotgun run we have (inside zone, outside zone, split flow zone, etc.) looks like a read option if you watch the QB/RB, but they aren't.

I went back and watched the offensive plays and we ran 6 option plays (4 read option, 2 inverted veer) and 2-3 RPO's. Dormady made the right decision based on his read 5 out of 6 times. The only one he missed was on the touchdown in the first OT. I have included the time stamps of the run plays in Freak's Offensive play-by-play video (thanks Freak).

0:33 Give Correct
3:42 Give Correct
6:28 Keep Correct
11:05 Give Correct
11:23 Keep Correct
11:51 Give Incorrect (still scored)

This is what I was trying to explain to jave a few weeks ago. I do not have much football knowledge at all, but I decided to read a bunch about the zone run plays. There are times that it appears that the we run a zone read, but it is simply a straight handoff. It may look like Dormady makes a bad read, but he isn't supposed to make a read. Occasionally the backside DE gets left alone, but it's the blocking scheme. I am not smart enough or have the football knowledge to see them in real time, but after reading about it, you simply realize that we don't run as many zone read plays as people think.

Edit: I see Volnukem's response about the backside DE. But I believe I have seen graphs of an outside zone run where the backside DE is not blocked.

Good post. I have a friend in college coaching that can see the play instantly, mostly by watching the OL, but I have to re-watch the play a few times before I am sure what it is. It gets harder when guys miss assignments. We do, in fact, run fewer option plays than most think.

Dormady look fast enough on the keepers to me. He can run this offense just fine. If your expecting him to have several keepers today you will probably be disappointed. Highly doubt they risk injury before Florida game just to prove a point. OL should be able to handle this team without Dormady run threat. Also remember it's RPO so there is the pass option that can hurt defenses and help run. I'm sure teams saw what happened on the Callaway TD vs Ga Tech. He pulled that from a chandler and hit Callaway. So you can hurt them in this offense and free up run game in more ways than running 30-40yd QB keepers

Ya know, I think people have a new appreciation for this kid... We used to treat him like the legend of Rod Wilks (there's only one Rod), but this kid is a dedicated scholar athlete who works two jobs to help pay for school and still has time for football...Talk about motivation. It is hard enough for some of these athletes to simply balance school and football, much less work two jobs and still have the motivation to go to practice every day, film study, etc... knowing you may not even see the field... great role model for this '' I want and deserve it now, but don't want to put in the work" generation of kids...
Hate to say it, but after last week, maybe JG should sit down for a minute with Paul....

Have to love stories like his.

This guy should get 30+ snaps today.

Agree. So should Butler and Bennett. Those guys should be the star of the show today. I hope Kmac and Vickers barely play after Monday night. they need the rest. Need the offense to start fast for that to happen.
