I am pretty sure that was my first game at Neyland too. I was 9. I grew up outside Memphis, and my brother was a senior in high school. He was considering UT, and he ultimately decided to go there. I had actually seen UT play Memphis at the Liberty Bowl in 1988. But I clearly remember wondering what a Zip was.

I will most likely not be at a game this year for the first time since my senior year in high school- 20 years ago.

That's really weird. Akron was my first game in Neyland too. My dad had 2 season tickets and always jokes about how it didn't take long for me to catch on to which games were there good ones, so he couldn't get away with only taking me to the crappy OOC games for very long.

This is what I was trying to explain to jave a few weeks ago. I do not have much football knowledge at all, but I decided to read a bunch about the zone run plays. There are times that it appears that the we run a zone read, but it is simply a straight handoff. It may look like Dormady makes a bad read, but he isn't supposed to make a read. Occasionally the backside DE gets left alone, but it's the blocking scheme. I am not smart enough or have the football knowledge to see them in real time, but after reading about it, you simply realize that we don't run as many zone read plays as people think.

Edit: I see Volnukem's response about the backside DE. But I believe I have seen graphs of an outside zone run where the backside DE is not blocked.

And my point was there need to be more plays called where he has the option to keep instead of designed handoffs. I see your point that coaches are calling designed handoffs, but our entire offense, running and passing, works better when the defense has to wonder of the qb will keep the ball and run it. Even the designed handoffs work better because on those QD is still trying to trick the defense by covering up an imaginary ball and running the opposite way. If the LB/DE believes he has it, they won't pursue the RB as fast.

By the way, even herbstreit agreed with me, said 3 or 4 times during the game that QD should have kept the ball and needed to be keeping it more. Clearly more than the one time the op you quoted claimed.

He kept it twice. Still should do it a couple more, but it wasn't once.

Agree. So should Butler and Bennett. Those guys should be the star of the show today. I hope Kmac and Vickers barely play after Monday night. they need the rest. Need the offense to start fast for that to happen.

I would like to see Bennett RS, he is so young. BUT, if he is physically ready I might throw him in there

I think they've said that we need him for depth and that he's going to play. In a perfect world, I agree, but depth is a concern.

I want Martin to be a successful this year. Pulling for him to get it together. He will get thrown at because of his past poor coverage and positioning. We need him to play well.

Go Big Orange!!!!

This is true.

I heard Herbie say it once on the Touchdown in the first OT, which I listed as a bad read. You are entitled to your opinion, but I showed my work. If you see a play that you think is a read option that I didn't list, point it out.

Even Herbstreit "agreed" with you?

Oh man, alert the press! Kirk Herbstreit, ace espn analyst, agreed with Jave36, message board poster, during a game broadcast. Print it!

As long as Herbie agreed with ya 👍

He said it two or three times in the 2nd half, he even went on a 45 second diatribe about it lol

Really? Don't act like a 12 year old. You know what I meant. What I've been saying for 2 years was also said by a professional analyst. Better?

That's fine. Show me plays where he should have kept it.

Why don't you go watch the 2nd half again? Check the game thread too, there were dozens of post about Herbstreit saying QD needs to be keeping it more.

If you disagree with him too, I definitely won't be able to convince you.

He can play well or get off the field and let a freshman or sophomore take his place. He's a senior and should play with more focus. No excuses for him or any of the upperclassmen.

So is your argument that it's a playcalling problem since the play being called in a lot of those situations don't have a keep option for Dormady?

Well, my argument for years has been that it's play calling, that coaches need to make sure the qb keeps the ball more often.

In the GT game, I'm saying there was more than one that QD should have kept it based on what Herbstreit said.

But I agree (now) with volgee that sometimes it's a designed handoff when it looks like an option.
