After going back and forth...
Most everyone with sense agreed Tennessee wasn't supposed to win the East this year. Almost everyone had us at 8-4 with losses to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and LSU.
Yes, Florida ended up worse than we thought and yes, we coached terribly. But at the end of the day we are still are on track to match last season's (albeit disappointing) record, even without Barnett and Dobbs and Kamara at 8-4.
In my opinion Butch Jones has proven he isn't the guy to lead us to a championship... but unless we lose to one of the weak SEC teams or Southern Miss, like it or not, we will very likely be stuck with Butch another year.
I'm not sure that 8-4 was some sort of consensus. A lot of people, myself included, had us better than that, in the 9-3 or 10-2 range. We should be off to a 3-0 start already.
There was also a pretty big divide as to whether 8-4 was good enough for an extension (which is really the important part here).
I do agree that I will believe we have another coach next year when I see it.
