After going back and forth...

Most everyone with sense agreed Tennessee wasn't supposed to win the East this year. Almost everyone had us at 8-4 with losses to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and LSU.

Yes, Florida ended up worse than we thought and yes, we coached terribly. But at the end of the day we are still are on track to match last season's (albeit disappointing) record, even without Barnett and Dobbs and Kamara at 8-4.

In my opinion Butch Jones has proven he isn't the guy to lead us to a championship... but unless we lose to one of the weak SEC teams or Southern Miss, like it or not, we will very likely be stuck with Butch another year.

I'm not sure that 8-4 was some sort of consensus. A lot of people, myself included, had us better than that, in the 9-3 or 10-2 range. We should be off to a 3-0 start already.

There was also a pretty big divide as to whether 8-4 was good enough for an extension (which is really the important part here).

I do agree that I will believe we have another coach next year when I see it.

I think that first down play where JK dropped it was the absolute perfect call. Much easier executing that catch and walking into the endzone that rushing for 9 yards with that defense crowding the line. Watch the film.
Every single defender was in the LOS.
Zero defenders off the ball

There are running plays to exploit that too. Spread them out and run toward the weak spots.

I liked the plays called in the 2nd half that kind of took advantage of UFs blitz. The RB screens, the fake RB screen, hit Austin Pope behind the D line when the LB blitzed. I also liked the play with Richmond lined up out wide. Would have been a TD looked like if either QD had thrown to the right spot or Smith had ran the right route. Thats one thing that needs cleaned up. Recievers and QD being on the same page.

That last line is the only reason this team isn't great. If the WRs would freaking catch the ball or run the correct route we wouldn't be chewing our fingers off right now... Well some would but the majority wouldn't

If we end up 8-4 with losses to UF, UGA, Bama, and LSU, it will be really interesting to see what Currie does in regards to Butch's contract. I'm not sure that record has earned an extension, but Currie's hand might be forced in that situation.

Should be a great game. If MSU wins then Mullen is going to be a super hot commodity

The hot commodity is a stretch. I would measure him on how he does against the West. If he beats Auburn, LSU, Miss, give Bama a game then yeah. If he gets over the hump and starts beating them they will pay to keep him and if he’s having success why would he leave.

I think MSU can beat them this weekend. They are riding high after that beat down they def believe.

Will be interesting for sure. Kind of a danged if you do danged if you don't situation. If he wins less that 8 there's no way he could give Jones an extension IMO

Why not give a one year extension offer with no change in buyout? Shows we appreciate what you’ve done but we need more if you want more we need more from you.

Dang you. I wasn't suggesting we could/would hire Gruden. Volitil said when you type in Chip Kelly in Google it brings up Chip Kelly to Tennessee as a suggestion. I was simply saying that if you type in Jon Gruden Google offers up Jon Gruden to Tennessee as a suggestion.

lol I know.

We act like running was the only hot hand to go to and that is just wrong. While we were certainly doing just fine on the ground as our last 3 runs were 4,8 and 5 yards we were absolutely on fire in the air especially out of the backfield. QD was 4 for his last 4 for 102 yards. They had no answer covering our TEs and backs. We made the right call. No way In our right minds we can fault Scott for calling a pass that produced a wide open back walking into the endzone.

Butch has been fairly compensated for what he's done. No real need to offer an extension based on sentimentality.

No, but you can fault him for calling six of them.

That's not how it works.

Why not? There’s not much the ad can do. No extension shows no faith recruiting will be hell and will set us back. Extension will show that they accept mediocrity and if we do get rid will hamstring us financially due to increase buyout. I don’t know what the correct course would be.

Jimmy Sexton would not agree to a fake extension. Not in a million years.

You've gotta extend him or fire him cause he didn't get extended last year. The only other possibility is that he wins enough for sexton to shop him to another school.
