Butch has done plenty wrong but he doesn't deserve a smear campaign.

Currie sounds like he has his stuff together. I know it's hard for us to imagine an AD that holds people accountable. I'm going to choose to have faith that he will handle it correctly.

Plenty of season remaining for Butch to get compliant or get to updating resume.

I missed the Currie convo, is he on the move to find a new coach?

Butch's scheme is the issue here. So everybody hoping we beat UGA or whoever... That's fine. We might. But it will be in spite of his scheme.

The only thing that saves Butch is him admitting his offensive and defensive schemes are not cut out for the SEC and he has to actually use his brain during games. Drop the charts. Drop the gimmicks. Train your team to punch people in the mouth and like it. Give the ball to your studs. Don't call plays based on percentages or most likely outcomes. That's ridiculous. It's like choosing the Ask Madden play every time instead of actually playing the game. It's a cop out.

Learn to trust your gut because that's how elite coaches operate. This game is every bit art as it is science. You have to be good at both. Butch so badly wants to prove to everybody how his scientific approach is unstoppable. But opposing coaches read right through him using their guts game after game. Even most mid-major coaches we've played are outthinking him.

There's a reason why we can't score until our backs are against the wall and we have to. We start getting desperate and taking risks and our players (who are awesome) start being creative and making plays. If we played with that mindset out of the gate we might be in business.

The only reason we have won the games we have is because we have the talent to hang around and wait for something fluky to happen. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't. That's no way to run this program on the field. We can do so much better.

Admit your mistakes now. Change it. Or get out.

This aspect is what I will be keeping an eye on the rest of the season and I think it's much more important than strict wins and losses.

This is what will ultimately be his downfall at Tennessee in my opinion. He won't change. Or perhaps he can't. Either way he's not fit for this program. All the other stuff he does is great. But the job is football coach. The most important part of that is what you do on the football field and he does not do that part well.

It's not even the scheme. He won't play guys that fit his scheme because of loyalty. He's got young talent that can make plays off of sheer talent. He wants guys in that won't make mistakes but this is the SEC. If you don't have the athletes you won't win.

Florida played two true freshman CB a lot of the game. Marco Wilson held Callaway in check and the other one ran a pick back for a TD. Cleveland and Franks are sophomores. Is Franks a finished product? No, I would bet Del Rio knows the offense better. But you've got to play your talented guys in this league.

Alabama started Hurts last year. He can't throw as good as JG at all. They didn't ask him to run the whole playbook or be all everything.

Tennessee has a star at RB, veteran O-line and Talented WRs. Coach your young QB to be a distributor and groom him on the job. This isn't hard at all. Call better plays from the booth and don't worry about who can check into what(#12 checks aren't setting the world on fire BTW) .

Extend or fire is stupid and is partly how we got trapped in this cycle of mediocrity to begin with.

Lane Kiffin leaves:
"We can't afford anybody good because we're still paying Fulmer and we didn't have a buyout for Lane."

Dooley gets fired:
"Well we can't afford a good coach because we just finished paying Fulmer and now we've got to pay this guy for 4 years."

Now:
"well we can't fire Jones, he's doing okay and it would cost us $6 million."

That's short sighted. If negative recruiting is that big of a deal then we're gonna be hurting after this season, anyways.

UT students planning a walk-out during the UMASS game. That could be one of the final nails in the coffin for Lyle

Who are you talking about? Our coach goes by Butch. If you're going to be childish and use the name that Houston Kress' worker bees use on Twitter, take it to the FF.

Huh?

Apparently other former players confirming. I will admit I have no idea who all goes to an away game.

Away game travel is usually responsibility of Director of Football Operations. This can become a juggling act. There are those who must go: players, coaches, support staff (trainers, equipment, S&C) and then it gets tricky. Requests from coaches for family, booster requests to travel and requests for other non essential support staff. It is really a no win job because whoever you say no to will be unhappy.

I'm disappointed in the outcome of the Florida game too but per usual Tony looking for a reason to stir the pot.

And times like these are when he does the most stirring.

I wonder if he's still waiting on Lovie Smith's plane to arrive...

He's actually encouraging fans to stay the course and root for this team cause it's not over yet. Bama is the only sure loss on the schedule. He thinks we can beat the rest of the teams we play.

What's sad is this is absolutely true. Most Tennessee thing ever would be to win the East at 10-2 and have Butch do an ESPN 30 for 30 how our fans ran him out of town.
