I don't agree with that and think it's poor management.
Poor management would be bringing him back and not giving him an extension. Would be starving out your own program.
We've got the money to fire him and we've got the money to bring him back and give him an extension.
The absolute worst thing we can do is allow him to be a lame duck coach.
Negative recruiting would be at an all time high
It will be regardless. An extension doesn't guarantee anything but increase the amount he's owed if terminated. It's not like he would be in his last year anyway. I agree a contract extension may lessen it a bit but they are already using his hot seat against him.
The problem is we have been outcoached way too often
IF Butch goes 8-4 again then negative recruiting is going to be very high anyways. Few elite recruits are gonna want to go to play for a coach that cant go better than 8-4 even when he has top 4 talent in the SEC and cant even win in a down East.
You just said firing him wouldn't cost us recruits so how is not extending him going to cost us recruits?
An extension slows all the negative talk down a lot IMO

Someone on the FF pointed it out but do y'all remember when Butch tried to implement the Rocky...Top (clap clap clap) after first downs. Lol. I forgot about it. Some things he has hit on and others missed on. I think that is where some of the disconnect comes from. At schools like Cincinnati, Western Mich etc that stuff is fine because it's lower college ball. You don't have to do that stuff here. Just like with the third-down music. To steal the famous line, just win baby
Losing too much and job insecuity costs recruits.
Already on the hotseat, Don't think it changes much but thats JMO.
Firing the coach could potentially make the class stronger than what it would be if you kept him.
Depends who you hire. A no-name coach will result in no-name recruits, JMO.
If he doesn't win enough to warrant an extension then we are better off firing him.
Again, publicly say"We're working on and extension". Privately, "No way in hell your getting an extension". Meanwhile, signing day passes. or Butch gets another job.
