I am amazed at how many keystrokes you guys waste talking about coaching searches and buyouts in September.

Exactly. No one knows what Currie's plan is. No one knows if he has a minimum number of conditional wins or losses. No one knows if Butch really wants to leave or not. It is all 100% conjecture when we still have 3/4 of our season to play. I understand that there's not much else to talk about with the behemoth UMass coming to town, but to argue over this many wins or that many wins and he should or should not be gone is premature.

LOL. No they didn't. Second highest amount of season tickets sold since 2007. Only 2016 was higher than this year.

I'm a previous season ticket holder. They offered up to 8 season tickets with no donation. I know the final number doesn't look bad but it took them more time than they expected to get them sold.

We were not in this game. We were in excellent position to win this game, but sometimes players have to execute. I realize that we had a lot of young players, especially receivers, playing in their first hostile road game, but you have to execute at the highest level when you are an underdog on the road.

But you know what? Unlike a lot of you, I feel pretty good about this team. We lost because there were a lot of mistakes made on the field. A lot of the mistakes I saw Saturday I can attribute to growing pains, and those can be corrected as players are gaining experience. I see Bama as the only sure loss on our schedule. LSU showed it has flaws on both sides of the ball. UGA I think is a pretty good ball club, but they also have weaknesses. I still believe 8-4 at worst, with 9-3 being highly possible, and even an outside shot at 10-2. And I think in a season where we were replacing about 90% of our offensive production, at least 8-4 will be a decent season, will hold this recruiting class together, and set us up nicely for next season.

The only fountain in the realm

Someone on the FF pointed it out but do y'all remember when Butch tried to implement the Rocky...Top (clap clap clap) after first downs. Lol. I forgot about it. Some things he has hit on and others missed on. I think that is where some of the disconnect comes from. At schools like Cincinnati, Western Mich etc that stuff is fine because it's lower college ball. You don't have to do that stuff here. Just like with the third-down music. To steal the famous line, just win baby

I don't think Butch really has his hand in much of that. Probably another staff person/persons. For instance, I doubt Butch had much to do with "Third Down for what".

They've been doing that for years. Offering up singles to season ticket holders with no donation is nothing new.

Second most in a decade. They aren't in trouble there as of right now. Next year they will see a dip if things keep trending the way they are currently.

Disagree. You are underestimating the appeal Butch has in recruiting

That's the one aspect of Butch that I have never underestimated. But if he goes 8-4 again it will be much more difficult to recruit then he has encountered so far.

I don't think that matters though because if he goes 8-4 I doubt he will be coaching UT next year.

Shouldn't we have seen a decline after last year being 8-4 in recruiting?

If anything we have seen an increase

He's a recruiter but it's been a bit overblown, in my opinion.

I'm counting each class Dooley and Butch finished of their predecessor. Went by Rivals on this, but:

Fulmer's last 4 year's, which had two of his worst classes of his tenure: average class ranking of 16.25

Dooley's 3 classes: 13

Butch's 5 classes: 12.4

What is it if you only count 2011 and 2012 for Dooley and only count 2014-17 for Butch?

Not unusual. Fulmer had his first losing season in 2005, and the class of 2006 was one of his highest ranked.

Conversely, we won the SEC East in 2007, and his 2008 was his lowest ranked class by far. The catalyst to 10 years of mediocrity, actually.

IF Butch goes 8-4 again then negative recruiting is going to be very high anyways. Few elite recruits are gonna want to go to play for a coach that can’t go better than 8-4 even when he has top 4 talent in the SEC and can’t even win in a down East.

UG disagrees. 7-5 got them #3 in recruiting in 2017. Granted, it was Smarts first year, but I'm not sure it matters as much as some would think.

I very seriously doubt Butches message to recruits has been "we underachieved last year but I fired the bad apples so Jump on board"

8-4 last year would end up being much worse than doing it this year IMO

I think the implication is that the new staff is better at recruiting than the old staff.

So I guess at this rate Austin Smith will be ruled out each game week to week instead of just saying he's out for the season... If he is not back by next week, why keep up the charade?
