Reece Davis wants Oregon

Reece Davis was on Feinbaum yesterday discussing CFP. He stated emphatically that Oregon should be in the mix as the Georgia/TN beat down was every bit the same beat down as GA 49-3 over Oregon?!?! That was on a neutral field. ESPN is dying to have west coast representation. Ridiculous stmt
They still have 3 tough games ahead of them, and we still have to dominate 3 SEC teams and get good enough to deserve to be playing for an NC. I will worry about this later.

It's ridiculous that we are basically told unless we beat the best two teams in the west and the best team in the nation, with 2 of the three games being on the road, that we don't have a chance to get into the playoff. One of the things the committee is supposed to look at is "can team A compete with team B". No one loss team has proven that more than us and honestly none of the 0 loss teams except Georgia has proven it yet either. Oregon had one chance to play a team of that caliber so far this year and lost by 46 points. Ohio State and Michigan haven't faced a team that has playoff potential. TCU hasn't faced a team with playoff potential either.

Oregon would get demolished by UGA again if they played I don’t even know why they are in the discussion.

Well we didn't score a TD until 4 minutes left in the game.

I think Davis is insinuating that if it hadn't have rained Georgia would have put another 3-4 tds on us.

Good Lord.
Can't assume anything....gotta go with what was played.

Well, you just said it. ESPNs wants are diff from committee. So, I'm not sure if this guy even has relevance to reality.

It doesn't matter. Very likely there will be a one loss Pac 12 champ, whether its Oregon, UCLA, USC or Utah

OTOH, Clemson is already out, and TCU is likely to lose one.

Then all we have to do is get by a one-loss Big 10 loser of Mich-OSU game. I think that's likely.

My guess is:

uga
Pac 12 champ (only if one loss)
winner of BiG
Vols

So Oregon, UCLA, USC, Utah...who cares. They will likely be blown out by the BiG school anyway

As for Reece...Oregon has a lot of games left, so why even bother discussing ( I know why, but...)

Things are gone get interesting.

ESPN is already trying to spin a narrative about Tennessee and the College Football Playoff

"I can’t even wrap my head around how foolish this sounds.

Dinich doesn’t think a one-loss SEC team (Tennessee) getting into the playoff is realistic?

But a two-loss SEC team (LSU) getting in is realistic?

I can’t make it make sense.

Especially when Dinich also thinks a one-loss Clemson still has a chance with a weaker schedule. Or a one-loss Oregon if they win the Pac-12.

It’s clear that ESPN is just trying to get ahead of any controversy surrounding a one-loss Tennessee team.

Because ESPN acting like it’s not even possible isn’t just foolish, it’s insulting to college football fans.

By the way, it’s not just Dinich spinning this narrative.

Kirk Herbstreit is right there with her."

"We’ve known for a while that ESPN has an anti-Tennessee bias. They’re certainly not doing anything to disprove that notion."

This is the beauty of playoff. At least at some level there is an objective on field standard that determines a lot of who the champion is. I grew up through my childhood in the 70s 80s and '90s having to watch has the mainstream media (ESPN nowadays) took the same kind of Liberty to choose who they wanted to be the champion! Now that sucks.

if Oregon is the Pac 12 champion: they will put them in over a 1 loss team that didn't even win their division, let alone a conference.

Also i hate to say it. but if it hadnt started raining UGA might have put up more points. Because our secondary was struggling on saturday

Where does Oregon finish in the SEC East if they play our schedule?

You know... it's crazy that people can't see this. Despite all the false start penalties and the lucky bounce on the punt that effectively took a possession away from us, we were one big play from being involved in a one-score game. A better ball to Tillman and maybe he comes down with a TD instead of it being an interception. A better ball to Hyatt or McCoy on those deep passes and it's likely a one score game.

But for whatever reason many people choose to believe that Georgia could move the ball against us any time they wanted but they just chose not too. Those people need to rewatch the 2nd half. UGA never took their foot off the gas, they just weren't as successful on the ground so their passes weren't set up as nicely and our DBs didn't get torched like they did in the first half when UGA did throw the ball.

We'll get a rematch on a neutral field and you'll see a much, much different game from Hooker and the Vols.

They only threw the ball 4 times in the second half that narrative won’t work

Goes a long way toward having a coast to coast viewing audience for the playoff first round.
Yep, not like the west coast really watches anyway. Rece Davis is a idiot if he wants to sit back and watch another 49- maybe 13 drubbing of Oregon.

Can I ask you fans to stop worrying about something you can't control.
Normally I agree with that sentiment, but this is exactly the sort of discussion that a football forum was created for. Having our beloved Vols in the middle of the discussion is awesome in my view.

They threw it 3 times on their long drive that got them a fg. After that they fumbled on play 1 of the next drive. Had -8 yards on the drive after, -2 yards on the next drive up 14 with around 5 minutes to go. There is no way they intentionally played that poorly on offense on three straight drives. -10 yards and a turnover on those three, when scores would have emphatically ended the game. They've never been shy about going over 40 against us under Kirby.

We are going to get screwed

Agree. I said the day after the loss that the committee will select a one loss Pac 12 champion over TN. And while Reese, Kirk and others don’t represent the committee, don’t kid yourself thinking the talking heads don’t influence the committee.

There is a lot of football left and usually it works itself out. TN needs to run the table in convincing style to prove that it was “an off night.”

We need TCU to lose and hope the PAC 12 champion has two losses. Oregon and the winner of the USC/UCLA game will most likely play one another in the PAC 12 championship w/ one loss, meaning the winner will advance to the playoffs, imo. I don’t see Oregon losing at home to Utah nor to Oregon St.

Also, I think it’s in our best interest for Ohio St to beat Michigan instead of the opposite.

Yep. They had five possessions.

They shoved the ball down our throat for 9 minutes on the first possession, but couldn't get into the end zone. Fumbled it on the first play of the next possession. Had two 3 & outs and ran out the clock on the last possession.

If we wouldn't have caused a fumble on the 2nd possession, forced them into a 3rd & 21 situation on the 3rd possession or if we hadn't of broken up the 40-yard pass on the 4th possession, they might have had more opportunities to throw. But we did. Credit to us for dominating the 2nd half defensively.

Just beat Missouri's ass this week, that's all we can control.

Three dominant wins to close the season and we are 11-1 with a strong SOS and our only loss a 2-score game against the #1 SEC champs. If that's not good enough, so be it.

Not saying they intentionally played poorly. I am saying they only threw the ball 4 times in the second half. It’s a lot easier to defend the run when you know its coming. Everybody and there brother knew that watched the game Georgia was just eating clock. You don’t throw the ball to eat clock. So the run is easier to defend when you know it’s coming and load up the box. It’s not rocket science
