Religious debate (split from main board)

Umm....I find that odd.

I would say many would want to in order to have some understanding of the person they are accepting as their personal savior. Otherwise, it would seem like an empty acceptance.

There are plenty of reasons to read all the holy books.

Now I have a question stirring in my mind...do we really need to be touched by the hand of Allah to truly understand the Koran? Perhaps these hate-spewing terrorists are just non-believers that don't get the true word.

You misunderstand me TT. I mean, specifically, why would they want to read it, if they aren't interesting in believing in the first place?? I mean, I guess if they want to stand around the water cooler and talk with Christian's about stories in the Bible or something to that effect. I just don't understand the premise, because a lot of people that come to the Lord don't exactly read the Bible before they do. Reading the Bible isn't a prerequisite to believing in Jesus anyway.

Its a possibility you have stumbled across something by using the proper bait.

Most of the people I know, parents, relatives, friends, say that the KJV is the one to read. Any other one is incorrect.

I would reply that the KJV was an update of the bible mean to help the masses understand the bible through plain english.

I would point them to the 1611 bible.......

You'll see the veign in the for head pop out.

Why would a non-Christian even want to read the Bible in the first place?? I don't understand that. It's not a book that is comprehended very well without the Holy Spirit, IMO.

Curiosity......

And I will disagree with the second part, a non christian can understand the bible.........

A non believer can read the book of James and get a good idea on how to live a good life.

There it is again... Why do you keep telling me I am talking about two different things, OE?

I misunderstood..... sorry...........

:eek:k:

1.) A non believer and believer can read the bible and understand.

2.) The differnence is after salvation and the holy spirit guides you.

Probably the same reason I'm trying to study Richard Nixon and Austrian economics right now.

It's an ongoing search for knowledge, regardless of whether you disagree or agree.

I'll admit, I'm more of a 'geeky' individual than a hands-on person. But personally, I have never had a liking for guns. I see them as causing more harm than good.

What do you think of me that I carry one every day that I work and I have the possibility of using the weapon to save my life or another person by killing someone?

Nixon was too smart for his own good and gave in to his paranoia.

Part 1: Basic understanding leading to "Heavenly Heart Burn".
Part 2: Spiritual Discernment through the Holy Spirit.

Again, what's the point?? How would ANYTHING in the Bible pertain to their lives, the way it pertains to a believer's life?? It just doesn't make sense. BTW, just because you understand what is being said in the Bible, doesn't mean you understand why it's written the way it is or in the context it is. I'm not saying this to discourage someone from learning, but if your not going in with the thought of believing what you read, what's the point??

The Bible just isn't a history book though. It would be like reading a physics book, with no thought of applying the principles to your life or work, if that's all your going to do with the Bible. If you don't believe in what the Bible says, why read it?? Are you going to try and convince people on the fence that it's science fiction and they need to do something else to be happy??

In short, you agree with me?

Why isn't it a history book?

Why isn't it a guide book?

Why do you want to limit the power of the bible?

But non-believers will not apply anything in the Bible to their daily lives. So, what's the point of them reading it, if only for comprehension, when they believe none of it??

I don't think Thomas Jefferson would agree with that.

Have you ever heard of 'The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth?'
