I think it comes down to different things. I would say the right leaning people tend to look at most things holistically as they are, but the government, or certain aspects, as they want them to be, ie Trump.
the left leaning groups seem to put everything to set expectations and then get upset when it doesn't match reality.

I like Trump's policies. Sorry. Has nothing to do with being 'right wing'. American corporations need to feel some financial pain in order to get out of China.

The thing missing from this conversation (granted maybe it’s covered in the podcast) is the child gap between republicans and liberals.

The group with the most kids is by far the happiest and I don’t think that’s coincidental

If you're voting against Harris, I absolutely get it! That's entirely different than proudly supporting Trump as someone who is a great POTUS. You're smarter than that

I would say you gotta keep in mind this is a sampling problem. If you're a narcissist, a medical professional is never gonna diagnose you unless you specifically see a therapist, and what Republican is going to a therapist to find out they are a narcisist?

This sampling is specifically biased towards anxiety and depression that a normal GP would feel comfortable telling a patient they may have.

In fact, the whole narcissism thing may be why right wingers can be happy while thinking the world is totally ****ed

do you have any evidence that narcissism is higher in people who lean right?

the notion that the world is totally f'd is refuted by almost every measure.
