Rumor out of Columbia Muschamp is out [Confirmed]

Butch's buyout was already written off. That money is basically in escrow and has zero to do with the current balance sheet, although it makes a good excuse to not do anything when talking with people who haven't bothered to look into it.

You know for a Hillbilly you seem pretty smart.

Yall act like Muschamp wasn’t set up to fail from the word go.

Spurrier was the best thing to ever happen at SCar and they assumed he’d pick right where Steve left off. He was never going to be that guy and the administration should have known that.
Good coaches win football games. Doesn’t matter who they follow or who they precede.

He's still going to want securities here with a huge buyout, his salary may be reduced but Jimmy Sexton will make sure his boy gets paid.
Why? He is guaranteed to be paid for more years than a DC contract. He makes his SC buyout pay amount for the remainder of that term. The only thing a DC contract does is reduce the amount SC pays vs the new employer. He has zero risk and zero need for a buyout on his next contract.

This^

When a coach is fired the money is put into an account setup by attorneys and the money is paid in installments. It was also likely UT boosters gave that money and didn't come out of UTs pocket at all.

The buyouts are figured as part of the salary.
It keeps those of us in the unwashed masses from raising hell about coaches pay.
Buyouts?? nothing to see here , move along.

Because every coach knows what they're walking into here, regardless of their previous situation they're going to want securities. UT is going to have to give 3 year deals to assistants coming in.

His record at Florida.

7-6
11-2
4-8
6-5

His offenses were ranked 105th in 2011, 104th in 2012, 115th in 2013, and 96th in 2014.

It's almost impossible to be that consistently bad on one side of the ball, particularly at Florida. What he has added to his repertoire is to have a defense as terrible as his offenses usually are.

I saw the Indiana game and they flashed a graphic that Indiana had 22 players from Florida. The guys who all the big guns pass on can still produce at a higher level than what was happening. Ditto the current state at FSU. It's not possible to be that bad at FSU unless someone is trying.

His record being bad at Florida goes without saying. He got fired, after all. I'm just saying that South Carolina may have thought that he mismanaged things that could be corrected with a second chance AND that worst case scenario he will build a roster that the next guy can win with.

It actually does seem like he can initially get a team moving in the right direction (year 2 at UF and USC), and then things fall apart.

Spurrier gave them a taste of relevance that they had never had and now their expectations and ambitions have outgrown their place.

His buyout from SC is 3 plus years. No need for security. He will make the same amount of money over that time whether he coaches somewhere else every day of his previous contract term or whether he is fired with no guarantee after 2 games at his new job. It would just be who writes what percentage of the checks totaling his SC buyout. He has no risk and no upside financially for the next few years. It's the beauty of hiring a coach fired from a higher level job position.

It sure seems a lot of coaches that spurned us have been sending us a similar message during our more recent coaching searches.

With that said, South Carolina is in the same state as Clemson. They also have to compete for recruits that Clemson does not want with just about every program imaginable given their proximity to other solid programs. I would not want the job if I were a coach with other options.

The athletics department spends like a drunken sailor on leave in a whorehouse.

The University gets a check most years for whatever they manage not to piss away.

Hahaha. SC will probably hire a decent coach, while we claim we can't afford to fire Pruitt. I hope they beat us by 3 touchdowns next year, if we still have Pruitt.

Will Muschamp isn't going anywhere without a buyout, period.

Here's an example of what happened when he went to Auburn after being fired from Florida

Unless Muschamp is found to have broken NCAA or SEC rules, the defensive coordinator will be paid the full value of the contract by Auburn if he is fired before Dec. 31, 2017. The payment, totaling as much as $3.5 million if fired in December, must be made within 30 days.

What’s the average ticket cost at UT, including the donation required to get those tickets? I’m willing to bet that number x 25,000 tickets per game x number of home games is far greater than the annual payment on Pruitt’s buyout and would more than make up for the difference it would take to bring a great coach in here.

Point is, generate excitement about your product, make more money. Keep producing a bad product, you’ll go out of business.

Hugh Freeze will be worth a couple Natty's, at the right school then probation soon to follow.
At South Carolina that would be no different than Ole Miss.
He is a perfect fit for USC Trojans, Texas Longhorns, Miami Hurricanes, Auburn Tigers , or LSU Tigers.
He is a short term fix with a possible natty then probation soon to follow.

Mandel also pointed out previous reports where Athletics Director Ray Tanner earlier this year reported that South Carolina projected a $58 million revenue gap because of the coronavirus pandemic. That makes it increasingly difficult to pay a $13.4 million buyout, though they admitted that all it takes is a few boosters.

CFB insiders out on Will Muschamp following Ole Miss loss: ‘He’s done’ at South Carolina

Where there is a will and some big checkbooks, there is a way.

Fulmer will probably fight firing Pruitt to the bitter end just to try and save face for himself though.

This is stupid. SC can do it but we can't. I hope we lose every game left this season. Add more blowout losses to Pruitt's resume.

That all applies based on offset of previous contract. I have no idea about his Florida contract. By all accounts, his SC contract has offset included.
