Rumors The Holly Warlick era may be coming to an end SOON.

I just don’t want this to effect Horston’s decision.....she’s the game changer we’ve been waiting on.

Not if Holly is still head coach. Unless Jordan is already at a WBCA all American level, it will be more of the same. Plus, Evina and Rennia are game changer with the right coach in place.

From what I am hearing on the radio and sometimes observing with my own two eyes, there's not much coaching going on, hence the 4 losses in a row.

Evina and Rennia, no way. Great role players in my eyes but game changers, no.

I think the Alabama game really made the possibility more likely. She has now lost 5 in a row to them that will get anybody replaced. I think she could still save herself by putting a competent team on the floor the rest of the season. By letting player play positions they are comfortable playing and better explaining their roles both on offense and defense. I know she hasn't been able to do that successfully in the last three seasons and don't expect that it will happen now. The negative is if she loses the Arkansas game she will tie the 6 in a row losses from 1970 way back before even Pat was coach.
Yea but she won't. She's proven she really can't.

This Arky game might be the most important game of Holly's career. At home, We Back Pat night, against a weak Arky team, already lost 4 straight and 1-4 in the SEC, and a pending loss to Notre Dame to follow. If they lose, they could end up with a 7 game losing streak (LSU will be a serious threat to win).

🍿

I hate to root for our team to lose...but if it helps purge the body, sometimes you just have to crap in the bed and be relieved it's over.

"How are you feeling about this Madtown? I’d love to hear your perspective. "

Thanks LadyVol1908 for asking.

Here is the quick evolution of my stance toward Coach Warlick.

I thought her initial hire was a mistake (like many here) because I felt she had defined herself as a lifelong assistant, who unlike DeMoss, never moved on to a head coaching role, despite offers.

However, CHW surprised me with how well the team played under her stead during those first 3 years. Offensively, the LVs played with more freedom and flow than they had under the last few seasons under CPS. During that run, I have no doubt they were Izzy Harrison's torn ACL from a final four and maybe more.

What has also become clear, however, is that there a was positive legacy from CPS, in terms of discipline and attention to detail, that carried over during those three strong years that meshed nicely with Holly's more forgiving, less demanding, "nice job" approach. The good habits were formed and now the kids could out and play with freedom and flair. Now, unfortunately, we have no foundation and hence, the flair attempts often fall short of success.

So, it has been a slow and steady decline since those three good years, with an occassional uptick here and there. I have been saying consistently that Holly has been burning up the goodwill from her strong start but that her recruiting classes had bought her additional some time.

I have been often brandished a "Holly lover" for that stance, but it really is just a reasoned assessment of the situation. You don't fire CPS loyal successor who had won 75% of her games and had two top tier recruiting classes coming in, even with some recent down years, without giving her what would appear to outside observers as a fair shot with her blue chip recruits. To do so, would have been a PR disaster for the University.

I thought she would have this year and next to deliver an SEC title and return the LVs back to a final four (or maybe the elite 8 at minimum). I believe the terms of her extension were consistent with the idea that she had, in effect, a two-year probationary period.

My one caveat was that if the team totally fell apart (which I did not envision at the start of the season), then a change might be made sooner. The previous 3 losses were moving in that directtion but they were just so close that I am not sure they necessarily set off a 4 alarm firm at the AD's office.
I would imagine the Alabama loss being not only an historic 4 in a row but also being one of the worst performances in the history of the program has the alarms ringing.

The nationally televised game against ND might be the make-or-break. If the LVs get embarrassed in that game, that is probably the point of no return and UT buys her out or she steps down.

My guess is that the UTAD would still like her to finish the season and then make a change (barring a miraculous turnaround) but a lot hinges on the next week.

Personally, I think a change is definitely needed. And I think it is time to look beyond the LV family and bring in a fresh approach.

Wow! That is a fabulous post and lesson. Thank you.

Evina and Rennia, no way. Great role players in my eyes but game changers, no.

Evina has good size, strength, has a sweet jump shot, can pass the ball, and get to the rim with ease. Her skill set is as good as any player at her position besides Sabrina Ionescu.

Rennia is a versatile perimeter scorer with good athleticism and excellent rebounding. Again, as good a skill set as any player at her position outside of maybe KLS and Collier from UConn.

If a coach can't build a team around exceptional talent like this, then they aren't much of a coach. Holly needs a team full of top 10 players just so she can lose to Alabama. Mark my words, if Holly is still coaching next year, you'll be waiting for that next player that is the one you've been waiting for to turn the program around.

I’ve said for years they picked the wrong assistant to keep. Go to South Carolina and offer Staley the money to come and coach. Major fall from grace the program is nothing like it was.

Given the LV’s tradition, and ability to recruit on that, no LV coach should be given more than five years to make a FF. Times up for Holly, actually past time.
