Alabama made a risk-reward decision. Kiffin did well with Crompton and ok with offense with a makeshift o-line. This is reward Alabama is looking for. The risk that are hoping to avoid is the brash statements and recruiting violations. No one likes the departure from UT, but he did bring some attitude and national exposure while he was here.

I am so tired of seeing this narrative recited without any facts to support it...This is just dead wrong. Crompton was just as bad under Kiffin as he was under Fulmer. Watch his three picks in the UCLA game and get back to me about how well Kiffin did with Crompton...or the first half against Auburn when he missed open receivers left and right.
His impressive work with the worst starting QB we have ever had that cost us both the UCLA and Auburn games in '09 by himself??? No, this was a move for recruiting like most everything Saban does...Nick thinks Lane can help him recruit California a little better no doubt.
(3) DEFINATELY was not afraid of Alabama the way Fulmer started to be in the end and the way that Dooley was. He had courage........
Whether he was doing a good job remained to be seen. It was the fact that a coach would walk away after just one season into a rebuilding process and so late that it hurt our recruiting. He forgot that WE gave him another opportunity to redeem HIMSELF after Al Davis fired him and drug his name through the mud.We don't like him because he came here, stirred up a buncha $h!t and then left us with the mess in the middle of the night - putting us in the position to hire a loser like Dooley.

What's worse is he ran off some good QB's without any to replace them. Had Cam Newton in the bag if we simply asked. Kiffin thought Matt Simms was the better option.
We all know how that turned out.
