If they extend Martinez, I have 0 faith Heupel will ever have us competing for a playoff spot. He just doesnt have the willingness to make changes and its going to be his downfall. We will win 7-8 a year on average. Heck that may even not be given now with leauge getting tougher and scheduling being the way it is.
Seriously doubt UGA gives him an interview. Smart did interview him when Brown was hired and Kirby passed. Very good recruiter, not so much X and O. There is a reason he’s been passed over numerous times for a DC position. If someone hires him, will be for recruiting purposes only. When he doesn’t have the AA players, it shows. UF defense was 120+ last year. Last years at LSU wasn’t great, he’s lost heat off his fastball. Hire him for recruiting then another guy to coach em up.So it looks like he would be a great pick up. Others were suggesting in another thread that he was trash. I would think if Georgia is interested in hiring him he’s probably not that bad, I’m only saying that because it seems like they can choose who they want.
Now we’re using PFF grading as facts about talent? Some have argued that we don’t have any talent at db.
I believe we have some talented players but certainly need more depth.
These are PFF complete season grades for our Vols dbs.

Wasn’t he a DC for y’all at Georgia? Seem to remember that.Seriously doubt UGA gives him an interview. Smart did interview him when Brown was hired and Kirby passed. So UFs DB coach is good enough to possibly go to the best team in the nation but not good enough to come here because Banks/Heupel doesn’t know him.UGA DB coach is taking the HC job of Syracuse, UGA about to hire the Florida DB that was let go , Please say it isn't sooooo
Agreed. And if it’s true that Heupel will only hire guys he is familiar with, then that’s a serious red flag.I really hope Martinez is gone after this season. Banks too really. But if it’s one or the other Martinez has got to go. If he doesn’t move on from him then that’ll be frightening moving forward.
I was talking about Raymond. He’s only worked for LSU and UF in the SEC and I don’t believe he’s been a college DC. Now, we did have Willie as DC, he was good friends with Richt from their Miami days together. Hard to fire a friend. Martinez is a good guy but he’s not the best coach.Wasn’t he a DC for y’all at Georgia? Seem to remember that.
Edit: I’m assuming you’re talking about Raymond
No it is a red flag. I don’t care about other coaches. There is some smoke around Raymond possibly going to UGA. This has to do with coaching abilities. If Raymond is good enough for UGA, that means he is definitely good enough for us. Sorry but if Heupel doesn’t at least kick the tires with Raymond, I consider that a huge red flag.No a red flag....most coaches operate that way. But Heupel didn't have ties to Banks before he hired him.

If the DBs can just turn their heads around and look for the ball - that will be a complete upgrade - like going from 2.0 to 6.0.
If you are in phase, you turn your head. If not, you catch up and play the hands to rip. If you turn your head when not in phase, guy can leave you as you slow down and score. If you think you always just turn your head around every time, it tells me you have no clue how to coach DB’s yourself. If the DBs can just turn their heads around and look for the ball - that will be a complete upgrade - like going from 2.0 to 6.0.
