SEC Network- How Long You Gonna Wait?

Here's an update from EPB's John Pless for you fellow EPB Fiber Optic subscribers...

"Since I've been at EPB a little over a year, this has been our most requested network from our customers by far," John Pless of EPB's marketing department said Thursday afternoon. "The interest is huge, because the SEC is almost like a religion here in the South. We've been in negotiations with them, which is something we have to do any time we add a content provider, but we do plan on adding that as soon as it's available."

I got my Xbox so not worried and Apple TV has watch espn. But I will use it to get free center ice and discounted Sunday ticket!

I think to get the SEC Network stream on your Xbox or other device you will have to get a user name and password from a TV provider that carries the network.

If ESPN wants to put the squeeze on cable companies, they should put some of the biggest games that they own the rights to on the SEC Network. For Instance, ESPN has the rights to the Clemson at Georgia game if they put it on the SEC Network and other games like it during the season, Directv, Comcast, and Time Warner would run back to the bargaining table to cut a deal.

Why does everyone ASSUME that ESPN is the knight in shining armor and the providers are evil ?

I think ESPN is a huge company that is as greedy as anyone and far from the lily white entity you all seem to think it is.

In this case I think ESPN is the bad one and is trying to force things on the providers that they don't want like the Longhorn Network. I for one don't want to have to pay a single penny more for that stupid network.

I also feel that the longer these negotiations go on the less the SEC network is going to cost me.

I dislike ESPN a lot more than I dislike my cable provider.

When the SEC signed the deal with ESPN to create the new network, all SEC fans immediately became ESPN fans too. By contract The SEC is committed to ESPN not the satellite or cable tv providers.

you do realise one of the hold ups is the fact that ESPN wants to force all the providers to carry the long horn network ?

ESPN is losing money on the LHN and wants me to pay more for the SEC network to bail them out.

sorry but ESPN can go screw itself. I personally hope Comcast and the rest bring ESPN to its knees. it controls so much CFB now it has become nothing more than a bully.

Do you understand how much money UT and other SEC schools make from ESPN carrying their games each season? It's in the millions, and it grows each season.

I don't know who provides your service, but maybe you should consider switching to ATT or Dish, both have agreements in place to carry the SEC network without charging their customers additional fees.

I'm am no fan of ESPN, but like I said before the SEC is now in bed with them, and for the SEC and it's Universities to continue to prosper they need ESPN to prosper too.

It's the lesser of two evils, ESPN or the providers, and the last time I checked the SEC/UT aren't getting a checks from Comcast or Directv. The money comes from ESPN and CBS.

LHN is part of the deal, but you're completely wrong on it being one of the hold ups. ESPN wants like 2 cents a subscriber for LHN outside of Texas, it's basically nothing.

The biggest hold-up for Comcast for the SEC Network is/was the state of Texas, though. ESPN wanted the in-market rate of $1.30/subscriber for the ENTIRE state, where Comcast didn't feel that was fair for the entire state, where they don't see as much demand in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio as there is in Houston and College Station. I assume they've smoothed that out.

UT is getting checks from Dish though, so I'd switch to them and do your school a solid. :)

Ok so I'm getting married Saturday. Me and the soon to be Mrs are closing on a house in Jackson, TN on July 18th. Anybody in the area have any recommendations on what cable or satellite provider I need to get so I can ensure I can see my Vols on Saturdays?

I'm out in Central California and stuck with Charter. Talk about trying to explain what the SEC Network is to these people! Anyways, just wondering if anyone has heard/read anything about them adding the SEC Network.

Sorry if this already posted. Just read this at Fox Sports .com
"According to Comcast, the nation's largest cable company, will be carrying the network. Comcast spokesperson John Demming told Outkick that the two sides are "working out final details." He also told Outkick, "We expect to come to an agreement in the near future."

Don't get caught without the SEC Network when the season starts dump them now, and get a provider who carries the SEC Network, I did!

I contacted Charter yesterday and the rep. stated he actually has heard of the SEC Network and that Charter was trying to get on the wagon and have the network before football season starts. He also stated to check your bill at the end of July to see if a message concerning this was listed on it. Also I live south of Birmingham so Charter is in more locations than Tennessee.

Go Vols

And ESPN gets a big check from Comcast and the other providers. ESPN gets far more from providers for the right to carry their programming than any other network and it isn't even close. When people ***** about their high bill, a lot of that is due to ESPN. Don't know if you remember or not, but 8 years ago or so, Comcast tried to buy Disney. This had nothing to do with Mickey Mouse, it was all about ESPN.
