Serious QB discussion

Milton has his faults, but Hyatt, Tillman and McCoy are all gone and the young guys aren’t getting it done either. It’s not all on Milton
You’re right that it’s not all him, but name one thing he is doing to make it any easier on them.

How do you know they are afraid to let him throw? Have you asked them and they told you that? Because unless you have, you don't know what they are thinking.
You can tell by the play calls....even the announcers....as much as we can't stand them...basically said same thing...and only 100 yds through the air? Come on. That end zone int was horrific...and if 100 yds is them trusting him what does THAT say about Milton?

5-1 with Milton at QB.

He’s done exactly what the coaches have told him to do.

You think Heupel forgot how to coach QBs?

Maybe he’s not as bad as you’re implying.
Milton has a very low football IQ. On the play AM jumped offsides, he could have very easily made the first down on his run and instead he stepped out of bounds. We didn’t make the first down after having to take penalty because of his blunder. On a 4th down play he took a sack instead of throwing the ball. Major mistake, you have to put the ball in play, it’s 4th down. In addition, he doesn’t see the field very well. There are other examples, but it just goes to show his football IQ is not good. Having said that, he is a good guy and a good teammate, he is just not a very good QB.

Bazooka Joe needs to get a haircut if he's going to take being QB seriously.
If you're playing football, make sure your helmet fits.

It would probably help Joe's confidence if the receivers would catch all of the few good throws he does make. Keyton is killing him. Very disappointed in Thorton.
I seriously think they’re shook. When it’s actually a good pass they don’t know what to do with themselves.

Milton starts against bammer for sure. If he is 2-9 with an int and we are down 2-3 scores, then maybe put Nico in for a series or two.

Other than that, stick with Milton.

Hopefully today was his worst game. He looked better against Junior last week. And yes, I know their putrid D has a lot to do with that, but even factoring that in, he was still better I think.

I really doubt there is anyone left who thinks Milton is the guy to get us any kind of championship. But, other than the very untimely INT he is a stabilizing force and when he does run can do damage with his legs. I guess my question is do we stick with his game management and just give up on the passing game realizing our WRs are not exactly world class either or do we go ahead and give Nico his chance? My honest opinion, while likely to be unpopular, is not to throw Nico into his first start at Tuscaloosa. Start Milton but have Nico ready if our passing game is as impotent as it was tonight. We could try the two QB thing too.
Joe isn’t a bad quarterback. I think the receiving core is lacking. Nimrod showed flashes today except when being held. Keyton has digressed. Not sure why

I'll be kind and just say he doesn't process information quickly..........

I looked back at stats from last year. 945 total plays. 523 were run plays - that is 55% of the plays executed in 2022 were run plays. Thus far in 2023, there has been 352 total plays, 187 of those have been run plays. That is 53%. Considering we are at the midpoint - we probably will not have the same number of plays as last year as we are off that pace. But the percentage of run verses pass plays is basically in the same range.

The 100 yards is because we passed less in this game. I'm not sure if that was the original plan but a good coach sees what the defense is giving him and takes advantage of that. In general teams have not been compiling lots of yardage against the A&M defense. The teams that beat them adjusted to what was working.

Using a hair commercial to make your point...
You said Joe needs a hair cut so his helmet fits. You actually think he'd be allowed to take the field with a helmet that isn't sitting on his head correctly? That would be a safety concern. You tell Joe to cut his hair.

My thing with Milton is I can't point to one functional area of the offense where he excels at or puts other people in position to excel. I'm not sure if Nico is ready either and I don't want to stunt his development and make him get hit repeatedly behind a bad OL, so that's where I think we're at unfortunately. It's extremely frustrating.
I think he excels at taking the snap without fumbling. He throws very will from sideline to sideline (behind the line of scrimmage). He runs well when it is a designated run play. He can get the ball to any spot quickly. Occasionally, he is on target throwing. He hands off very well.

He is far from a perfect quarterback, but he can help us win a lot of games, if we work correctly with the skillset he has.

Milton throws the ball too hard. The WRs are gun shy. It is worse when he tries to take something off. I've defended him but I think his lack of production in the passing game is a problem. The other problem though is that UT needs that game management and Nico probably isn't ready. While he might make some plays, it is all but certain he would make game losing mistakes as well.

Like others have said, even if it were time to make a move, which only the coaches truly know, a road game to Bama isn't the time to do it.

My hope is that the just start running Milton more. He's better on designed runs than scrambles. That option play was really good.

UT's OL with Mays is not a bad OL. But you aren't wrong that Nico might not be ready to manage the O including the OL.

Milton is off target too often and just throws the ball too hard. Keyton is the benchmark. The didn't drop balls left and right with Hooker. Now he does. I don't have anything at all against Milton. I think there is some shared blame. I don't know if UT has a better option right now. But this isn't a receiver problem. McCoy wasn't having a "great" year either on the receiving end of Milton's throws.

I’m saying they’re not getting open… but as far as velocity goes…. Keyton’s drop tonight came on a perfectly thrown ball….. that actually had some touch on it…….rare occurrence
