Serious QB discussion

Hendon would of had probably 275 passing 75 rushing and 2 td’s with those young guys yesterday.
Milton seems like a nice guy and is well-liked on the team. He has all the tools. Coaches drool over him watching him throw in practice. He just doesn't have "it". "It" is that guy on 3rd and 2-3 or whatever, he always gives a play a chance, and if it looks bad he runs or throws a 50-50 ball to give his guy a chance or get a pi. How many times have we seen him slide, go out of bounds to avoid a hit, or chuck it in the stands? Zero situational awareness. He needs a play caller who is basically playing video games: come to line, fake snap, look to sideline, Heup tells him where to throw it. Just don't expect him to think. No option plays-tell him to keep or give it, he can't process the game that fast. People wonder how he beat out Hendon last year. May have something to do with practice never being live for the QB. Whistle blows every time someone gets near him. You never knew, until he got into live game action, that Hendon would break those tackles and juke guys. Milton is such timid runner. I've also never seen anyone fix a qb who was inaccurate. That seems like something you have or don't. He'll still end up at an NFL camp because some QB guru thinks they can fix it.

You been attending practices?

Like i said before,, he's not the best QB wehave had but having to put up with 3 DISASTROUS
years of JG i can live with Milton's flaws.
He needs to improve but things could be a lot worse for sure. I can live with it too, but he still needs to keep working at it and there should be progress. That may or may not happen, but as good as I believe Nico can and will be, he also has got to make his own strides. Joe is the guy, and that may change at some point, but I don't think we have some magical QB who is gonna be a big improvement over him for sure right now. Make the change prematurely and things could get quite a bit worse. Of course things could also get better for sure, but let's acknowledge it's very risky. It worked when Hendon replaced Milton, but had it not the story could be very different right now.

As long as we are winning i can live with winning
by 10 points each game. I always have been
more defensive minded anyways. If i had my way
A players whole body would have to be inside
the pylon for a touchdown. Every rule is tweaked
for offense.

Milton is JG the only difference is JG was tougher. The fact he is still starting shows the great issues that lie ahead for TN. There's no reason not to have Nicco out there. W

I really doubt there is anyone left who thinks Milton is the guy to get us any kind of championship. But, other than the very untimely INT he is a stabilizing force and when he does run can do damage with his legs. I guess my question is do we stick with his game management and just give up on the passing game realizing our WRs are not exactly world class either or do we go ahead and give Nico his chance? My honest opinion, while likely to be unpopular, is not to throw Nico into his first start at Tuscaloosa. Start Milton but have Nico ready if our passing game is as impotent as it was tonight. We could try the two QB thing too.
I like the kid and I wish him nothing but the best. With that being said you have to be high if you think he’s a stabilizing force. He had guys wide open and threw to late the 4th quarter he was wide open in the end zone and waited to throw until he was covered. He’s a great kid just not a QB time to move on.

Milton has no clue how to win. Defense is all that is keeping us in games. Joe is the worst QB in this league and it's not close.

Milton is 6-1 in his last 7 starts…. When did JG ever have a stretch like that. JG would literally throw games away to lose….. guy wasn’t playing to win.

Remember when everyone was upset when Athlon rated him the 24th best QB? Kinda crazy how everyone was talking about him getting drafted in the top 10 and some saying they wouldn't take Hooker back over Joe.
I think the post got nuked from embarrassment. I don't think he's top 10 in the SEC but he's what we got and I'm pulling for him.

We are basically halfway through the season at this point and Joe Milton is what he is at this point, a lower tier SEC quarterback. That said, as long as we remain in the divisional hunt it probably is better to play him than a true freshman who at this point would seem not to be clearly better (at this stage in his young career) and needs another year in the weight room.

I do think he’d be better if we had Bru and Hyatt/Tillman back. Milton is very hesitant to throw the ball up with these guys. Even when we had Bru. He’ll get there. Nimrod looks to be his new favorite target.

And halfway thru the season, we control our destiny…. Everyone would have taken that scenario thru 6 games if offered before kickoff of Virginia game.

I know on occasion Hyatt was running wide open, but often Hooker "threw guys open" so to speak. To me that and effective running are what we're missing the most from the QB position.

Remember how different Keyton looked with Hooker? Now the ball is coming at you super fast (or super slow like the drop yesterday), slightly behind you, or way on front of you, etc. I'm not saying to "bench Joe" or anything like that, but I don't see these guys developing a chemistry with him in the remaining half season. I also don't think these receivers are nearly as bad as they look.

I think it's imperative that Joe run a bit more to at least bring that element back to the offense. He doesn't need to sacrifice his body, just take what the D gives him.

I’ve yet to see anyone complaining about the receivers not getting open…. They’re not getting any separation
I've seen a couple of people mention it but the general order of the day lately is to keep bringing up Milton. Definitely he has flaws that haven't come along as well as one would hope to this point, but he isn't the full picture.

We’re going to have to rely on our defense the rest of the season. We’re just very limited with not only Joe, but WRs aren’t getting open enough and when they do, Joe just doesn’t see them a lot of the time. The dropped passes sure don’t help this season either. See Milton’s TD pass to Warren, very simple, concise play for Joe to execute. Heupel is going to have to do more of those roll out shorter passes, slants, screens and incorporate some wheel routes with the RBs to loosen up Bama’s defense, help out the run game and keep it a little simpler for Joe. I just keep hoping that it just all of a sudden clicks for Milton in a game. Well, this would be the game for it to click if it’s going to at all.
