Turned down because the job was offered or asked if they were interested in interviewing and they said no thank you?
My guess it is more like the USCsr and Indiana coach just wasn’t interested in leaving for anywhere right now and they declined to even discuss the opportunity. Hammond may not be interested in dealing with recruiting at any college must less UT. How many long time men’s coaches have left the sport in last 3 years because they saw portal/NIL train coming (Roy Williams, Coach K, Nicky Satan, etc….)
I keep hearing turned down without any hard references but for me it’s different when people aren interested for one reason or another. I turn down recruiters frequently in the past because I would not consider moving due to parents age…
We really just don’t know If it’s declined interview or turned job offer down.
While I love the confidence, she should have answered the why to that last question given that coaches in the SEC have tried that type of scheme and failed. It was a valid question to be asked. While the answer reeks of confidence it also carries a level of arrogance of one thinking they can do what others have tried and failed at.
If it works, I suspect we can probably beat the same teams that Kellie beat coupled with a high probability that we lose to the same teams that Kellie lost to. We are not beating SC and LSU unless we have the athletes to do so. If it fails, we are in for a long year because it is obvious she has no plans to adapt and change.
Actually, her contract should be a model for all future Coach's contracts no matter what sport. There are too many contracts for huge money for multiple years with large buy outs to get what many of you folks are referring to asHigh risk, success then high reward. High risk, quick failure, move on to the next.

Established ,seasoned coaches who are most likely to revive a program which is on it's last breath of life. The landscape is littered with corpses with those contracts of established big name hires who failed at those schools . The salaries should start out relatively small with huge incentives built in and the buyout renegotiated each year based on performance. just like her contract is written .A smart man had that contract developed ......thank you Athletic Director White !!!!!

Good gracious those two coaches ran the program in the ditch and buried it ....there is no other way to say it .Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that most coaches, especially those with success that brings them both fiscal and job security, would look at a place where making the NCAA tournament every year and reaching at least the second round or even the Sweet 16 isn't enough to keep the job, and say "thanks, I'm good."
Because let's face facts. Warlick made 3 Elite Eights, a few Sweet 16s, etc., and never missed the tournament. It wasn't enough. Harper made two Sweet 16s in five years, and never missed the tournament. It wasn't enough.
I don't think people understand how that can look to most outsiders. People can strut up and down and say "we're too good for that" all they want. You either have to pay - or even overpay - out the nose or make tough decisions to hire around those kinds of standards. And even then, you may not get takers, because people will know just how short their leash is.
This. Matthew Mitchell’s teams at Kentucky had a similar style. Didn’t win anything. He also struggled to recruit post players that could challenge TN and SCs.While I love the confidence, she should have answered the why to that last question given that coaches in the SEC have tried that type of scheme and failed.
