You can't reduce greed. If a society has the will, they can starve it by denying elitism and class privilege. But it will just hibernate, awaiting circumstances favoring its return. And humans will always create/accept opportunities to satisfy their Jerry McGuire trait. We have a collective tendency of no matter how much we got, we always want more. Greed, you see, is the central column of capitalism. It refuses to be reduced. To get rid of it, you have to kill it. But the dastardly thing about greed is, it resurrects itself.
We need to return to a culture that teaches that it is bad and not something that is appropriate and even beneficial.
You can't eliminate it but you can certainly reduce it.......and increase the scorn with which the greedy are viewed.
And certainly never admired.
Greed is, I guess for this discussion, wanting more than one's 'fair share'. Capitalism is just private ownership of means of production. Greed is not the central column nor the root of capitalism, private property is. Greed as a human trait existed long before economic systems came into being. As an aside, if you want a system that really encouraged greed, look at mercantilism. Capitalism does run on profits, but I think we all agree that a aiming for fair profit is not greed (sure there's debate about what is fair).

Greed is simply the desire for more. Not “more than your fair share”.
Neither you nor I know how to calculate our “fair share”. So if we desire more money, property, food, anything, that desire is greed.
Your complete misunderstanding comes from your lack of awareness of the vast area between greed and benevolence.Do you think Ford, GMC, or any other company sells you a car based on their greed or benevolence?
Does Kroger, food lion, etc sell you groceries based on their greed or benevolence?
It’s greed that provides the privileged life you live
I provided two definitions yesterday.....go back and look.Explain then. Why do car manufacturers exist? I would say they exist because their founders and current ceos all want more than they need (to borrow from Hog).
Why is that not greed?
It's what a impartial group of reasonable people would deem it to be.I despise the term "fair share". Can you define what that is and if you can you will be the first on this board.
Bullshot.........if you think those Titans were universally and always admired you're nuts.Bullshot, we used to admire the Titans of industry, the men who built America. Now you want to disparage them because they were greedy. Their greed built this country.

10 people are stranded on a lifeboat in the middle of the ocean with one gallon of water. I'm pretty sure they could come to a consensus on what a fair share of the water would be.
