Spence "informally" offered OC job

and how does it make CPF look if Spence turns him down?

Spence turned down the Raiders for a heck of lot more money than what anyone in college could offer. Granted I know he didn't go there because of the fact Oakland is a graveyard for coaches, but still.

Nick Stephens, Chris Smelley, BJ Coleman, and Ben Martin are the only players Cut has recruited since returning to the hill.

He recruited Eric Berry, for sure. He may not have been his primary recruiter, but he helped. I'm also pretty sure he probably had a hand in the recruiting of every offensive player over the last two years.

Eric Berry was a Trooper and Fulmer deal. If the reason you say that he was part of the recruiting for all the players on offense because he was the OC here, then the same can be said of Chavis.

Anybody have any idea what happened in his interview with Kiffin (did the Raiders initiate)?

No one said Chavis doesn't recruit. Eric Berry mentioned many, many times that he spoke with Cutcliffe and Chavis about how each would utilize him. He was very interested in the QB package Cutcliffe designed for him.

Shoot Chavis is a recruiting machine compared to Cut. Chavis was the primary or a big part of recruiting 23 players in the past 3 years. We didn't get that many commitments, but the fact remains that Cut isn't a big recruiter and honestly it didn't bother me all that much.

I think we saw Gerald Jones in that very package. :good!:

Yeah. Cutcliffe helped recruit him, too.

Eric Berry on offense was only blowing smoke to EB and he was coming here anyways no matter if we ran it or not. He knows he will be an All-American at Safety and not on offense. I just don't think we will ever see him on offense, and honestly Gerald Jones is a more elusive runner than Berry is, IMO.

Making an awful lot of assumptions there. Regardless, only one sentence was relevant to the discussion of whether or not Cutcliffe recruited Berry. You basically just admitted that he did.

Here's an article detailing Berry's recruitment.

I disagree. When they recruited him, I think they had serious intentions of playing him both ways. I think you would have seen Berry on offense if the Vols had not been so dangerously thin in the secondary. UT couldn't afford to risk playing him both ways with the injuries to Johnson and Gaines, the poor play of Parrish, and the dismissal of Fellows before the season.

Cut's part was significantly smaller than what you are making it appear to be. Also, what position on offense was Ben Martin supposed to play since Cut was his primary recruiter?? Cut's not an avid recruiter of anyone unless it is his QB's. Martin is an exception to the rule though.

I am sure they played a big role but, IMO, the following had more to do with EB coming to Kville....

"Berry’s trip to Knoxville for the Tennessee-Florida game on September 17, 2006 was not his first. As a matter of fact, his first trip to Neyland had been as a young boy, with his father James, who was a four-year letterman, three-year starter, and one-year captain while playing for Tennessee from 1978 to 1981. The elder Berry (!) had been a teammate of John Chavis’ and a player under Fulmer when Fulmer was a lowly assistant. While he’d spent time in Dallas playing for the Cowboys, he remained faithful to the Vols, watching them every week."
