Spence "informally" offered OC job

Isn't there a strange coincidence that he is a QB as well??

Not really. Pryor isn't considering South Carolina...Not considering Hawaii or Texas Tech either.

I'm sure that Pryor likes the fact that Cut can develop quarterbacks...but, it's clearly not the only reason he was interested in playing for him. Clearly, as a recruiter, Cut did a solid job of developing a relationship with Pryor.

Cut wasn't the best recruiter on UT's staff, but he wasn't as bad/uninvolved as you're making him sound.

You guys act if I have throw Cut under the bus for not being a "good" recruiter. I never said he wasn't a "good" recruiter. The only thing I ever mentioned was he didn't recruit much here at UT. Cut if anything is a good recruiter, he just doesn't get at it like most on the staff as I have made perfectly clear in other posts I have made.

Cutcliffe really didn't recruit much here at UT either.
Cut's not that big on hitting the road recruiting as he is getting into the film room.
Cut had very little to do with it.

He is an extremely intelligent mind, but recruiting is not where he excels. He's a QB developer and offensive analyst, not an in-home dishwasher like Fulmer. I'm sure that Cut will have his hands in it more at Duke, but his assistants will do more with it than he will. That's one reason Matt Luke is leaving to go with him. A cozy job as recruiting coordinator awaits him if I am not mistaken.

I'm not saying Cut didn't have a contribution, just saying that contribution was about 5-10% of what was used to get the job done.

I never said he was a terrible recruiter. I made a point he does not like doing it and you guys read into it what you wanted to for the sake of an argument.

I haven't said he wasn't a "good" recruiter. His offense and QB teaching ability sales itself more than his witty personality and life teaching skills.

I don't think there is some set of rules defining what tools one must use to recruit in order to be a good recruiter.

Can Spence recruit?

Just like I have been trying to explain here Jewbaccah, Spence is like Cut he doesn't get on the road like most of the other coaches do. Spence let's the offense sell itself, just like Cut does. Spence a "bad" recruiter, the answer is no. An unlikely source of recruiting, yes.

How familiar are you with Clemson's recruiting process?

Where in my statement did I ever say there was?? There are strengths and weaknesses of everyone involved in recruiting and that's why you have to be careful who you send in alone. There are stronger candidates than others though. Cut is not one of those "strong" candidates.

Tennessee wouldn't consider calling any of the guys I would want. I don't even worry about our coaching searches anymore. They've gotten one right in the last decade. No reason to expect anything else.

No offense intended (no pun either), but I would like your take on who that 1 coach was. I can't recall your naming one coach you liked (it could just be my memory or I missed a few posts). Thanks. PS: I would like to know who is out there you feel CPF should be chasing after?

I've already mentioned Kevin Wilson. I have no issue with Chris Hatcher. Kippy Brown is not a bad idea. There are plenty of others, this has just played out as I expected.

Here you go gcb.

I thought the talk was that Swinney would take over the OC duties at Clemson if we hire Spence. I doubt he comes to be a position coach on the hill if he can be the playcaller at Clemson.

Essentially I believe it would be the same situation that TT was involved in here at UT, but we will have to see what Swinney wants to do since I am sure that it would be a raise to come here to UT.

There wouldn't even be a search for a new OC if Clemson lost Spence. Dabo would automatically get the promotion.

From the sounds of things if Swinney/Spencer were a package deal that might not be so bad. Spencer by himself however, isn't that impressive.

Actually the Swinney talk has got me excited. It seems like an upgrade if we get both. Although, I would offer the house to bring the guy from ILL.
