Star Watching (merged)

lol. I just read it. All do respect, I didn't read but maybe the first 3 pages and then got tired and the arguments were ridiculous.

Get off the dude's back. He made a legit post and instead of arguing the merits or lack-thereof the post, people want to boost their internet/message board cred by bashing the spelling.

57, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums are derived of posts from armchair quarterbacks, and faux recruiting experts. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Little DTO?

We have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for the orange over-all clad clowns, and curse critics of the coach; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Internet critics, while tragic, probably saves the Mod’s time, and that our very existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves bandwidth.

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want people to argue with you, you need someone to argue with you.

We use words like FAIL, Beep Beep, and lulz. We use them as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain how ridiculous the threads are during the off-season to a man who rises and sleeps under the very freedom of free speech these boards provide, and then questions the manner in which they provide it. I would rather you just spell the coach’s name correctly the first time, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you check your feelings at the door, and avoid getting your e-feelings hurt when you post drivel. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

I hate to agree that we dont have a bunch of 4 and 5*s but look how big the guys are that were getting. The average height of the players is like 6'3.

I disagree. I feel that this staff is perfectly capable of recruiting top-tier talent to Tennessee. They showed it in their short time with the last class and continue to show it if only in numbers this season. I think part of the problem is in the plan that is being executed. I do not think we are swinging for the fences such as we did last year. We are settling way too much because of the situation we are in and the sheer numbers we need to have at certain positions.

The coaching staff seems too overconfident about "player evaluation," like there are enough diamonds in the rough out there to make a champion and they are the only ones who can spot them. Perhaps that's just spinning the lack of top tier commitments so far. You are right. We need some home runs. The small ball only goes so far.

I have a droid and it says that..

Not sure about the browser that comes with the phone. I am using one with a filter. I already had a virus. BTW, don't get the Dolphin browser. It is supposedly an anti virus one as well but doesn't work well at all.

Alright cool..

I can't say that I agree or disagree with Sab even though he does bring up some good points, but it does seem a little early to assume that the current players are below expectations.. I would think we would be better to bash and/or celebrate after the kids play their senior season...

I think some one here are way to hard on the commits and some get way to excited over the commits this time of year.... but that is what makes this board so great..

Raise your hand if you think a player is at his best skill level during his junior year of high school..

I think people are really underestimating this variable of recruiting.. Be prepared to see rating changes, and players shooting up the boards that we had no idea about. Some really talented players have been sitting behind other really talented players on the roster waiting for their time to shine.

It's not like Nick Saban didn't sign the #1 class in the nation after going 7-6. Oh, wait.

He also had won a championship previously and was able to coach that season. CDD hasn't coached a game here yet and none of the higher rated players have gotten a chance to see any product, good or bad on the field. Let the guy coach and see if players change their minds. I do agree that we might be taking commitments from some players too early. However,I'm going to let the coaches do their jobs first before I grill them.

It's the way the class is trending and the way it appears to be shaping up more so than the guys we currently have committed. I wouldn't throw any of them back. There are obviously some players I would trade some of them for, but when is that not the case?

It's a commentary more than a complaint.

And no one who is anybody wants him.

You guys can spout off any statistics you want but you can look at an offer list and tell a helluva lot about a prospect.

Some of our commitments have offer lists belying their star rating and that's great. Most pretty accurately reflect them.

I've said my piece. I'll let the excuse-makers continue to fill the discussion with reasons we should all feel warm and fuzzy.

I'm all with you man. Our program has reached the bottom of the barrel and these guys on here try and spin it into something good. This is UT...not UM(emphis). With Porter at the helm their recruiting is in good hands unlike ours. Before you say anything I am referring to the 2 programs and their different scales. We are in the SEC and formerly one of the top programs in the nation. Memphis...never been anything. We will have better players in the end(hopefully), but for what Memphis is and has to offer, their class will be better comparatively. We have 2 committed guys that have NO STARS. THEY ARE NOT EVEN RANKED...PERIOD. DO NOT TRY AND SPIN THIS. And the rest of them are academic jewels with three stars. If I wanted a team full of effing Spelling Bee winners, and Chess Club members I would follow the M.I.T. football team. We need a miracle filling out the rest of this class to not fall further from grace. For those of you that think things are good:good!: with this current situation...you are delusional. WE SHOULD HAVE ALL 4*'s and a few 5*'s. MAYBE 1 OR 2 3*'s...like Alabama, Florida, and USC.

other than displaying a gay avatar, how would you solve this problem?

But the caliber of players we have recruited up to this point is very disappointing. Some of these guys will undoubtedly end up All-SEC type players, but your odds are much better with better rated talent.

I understand it's a process, but if Kiffin was able to convince high-profile kids to come to UT then we already know it is possible. Unless this recruiting class takes a real turn, it appears that we will be forced to rely on under-vauled players to build our future team upon and please do not delude yourself, that will make it nigh impossible to compete with the Floridas and Alabamas.

This is not an evaluation of our coaching or recruiting abilities, merely a sobering examination of where we are as a program right now.

I agree 100%

You either need BETTER players than your opponents or BETTER coaching. The coaches at the 2 schools you've mentioned are recruiting better players AND have won National Championship games.

We have to step it up in recruiting. We've seriously taken a huge step back from the types of players we were getting in last year's class.

At this point, I think I'd take LV's bet that UT will end up inside the top 15 in the recruiting rankings this year.

I'm not overly impressed with one single commit we have right now. All of them have a chance to be okay.... and I'm sure you'll hear about it years from now.... the one or two 3* that end up being All SEC. But as I've been saying since this class started forming... if we really want players high moral standards and low 40 times, we should've just hired Fulmer back. This is looking like his final full-signing class in 2008.

And also, it makes it ALOT less fun to follow recruiting.

I'm just so much less excited about UT football and recruiting than I was at this time last year. Kiffin was a d-bag, but he was going to turn our program around one way or another.

I hate Pete Carroll.

2 of those high profile guys that Kiffin brought in are now gone. Bray may turn out to be the next Peyton Manning but he definitely wasn't Kiffin's first or second choice. Dooley also brought in 3 guys that Kiffin couldn't in Hunter, Stone, and Rogers.

I feel much better about guys that they have personally evaluated and are taking commitments from than I would about a 3* that hasn't camped at all. I agree that I would like to have more 4 and 5 * guys committed by now, but I do like the fact that they are shoring up the lines. UT is pretty solid at the skill positions right now. The O and D line are the hardest guys to evaluate and predict whether they will be a good player or not. That being said, if our coaches evaluate a player at a camp, and then offer, I have to believe that they are SEC caliber players.

I'm amazed at how clean Carroll's legacy has remained through all of this.

My neighbor is 6'7 300 lbs.. maybe we should sign him.

Get outta here with that.

1- the ratings for Fla are jacked up with Rivals due to Jaime Newburg leaving so they have not had time to go deep with the class besides the obvious so kids like Saulsberry and Tom smith will likely make jumps especially Smith to a 4 star

2-most of the kids tapes i have seen look like very solid players with high character and willing to work their tail off

I actually like the type of guys we have pulled but people need to keep in mind that Dooley is just setting the foundation for this class with solid players with excellent character who will give their heart to the program and not flip flop on commitments to make him baby sit all year. The high 4 star and 5 star athletes are all waiting to see the product on the field and then you will see the moves happen.

We have plenty of spots left for the 4 and 5 stars and they will come if you people will be patient.

Kiffin hardly had any commits at this point..the same people were complaining about kiffin until about week 2 or 3 when he pulled off miller, willis, and cobb onthe same day..also prob the same folks yelling about not having high character players as well
