Star Worshipping

I'm sure he does as well, but would you go so far as to say he knows more that Nick Saban or CUM or Richt, or Spurrier, because those guys are not going anywhere near are coveted 3 stars.

Posey, Worley, and Randolph had offers from LSU, Georgia, and Florida.

I didn't say they don't sign 3 stars. I'm saying the players that are committed to us did not get offers from any big football powers. Just the likes of Vandy and Kentucky.
(Response is based on Scout's profiles)

Really? How about Worley? UF, ND, LSU, FSU... aren't significant?

Maybe Randolph? UF, UGA, GT,... and the Ol' Ball Coach himself?

Smith didn't get offers but he had legit interest from schools you seem impressed by. More than that, his production vs one of the top conferences in HS football is something you can't ignore.

Posey was getting interest before he pretty much cut everyone off.

You sound like the Chik'n Lil's here a couple of years ago when Clawson offered Schofield. You should have read the mocking and handwringing... his only offers were from Gardner-Webb and Charleston-Southern. A few months later Kiffin called him the best OL prospect they had evaluated.

What is wrong with all you guys. All you talk about is wanting 4-5 stars. The heck with that,I want some 6-7 stars.why ask for a medicroe player, when you should go for the best.
Oh wait,ther are no 6-7 stars.Oh well,will settle for what CDD gets.GBO :dance2::yahoo:

I understand you want to post your opinion, but they are right there are about 50 million threads already floating out there just like thisssssssss......

What came first stars or football recruiting?

Star ratings are the creation of football magazines designed to create an interest from fans so they would buy their magazines. Football recruiting has gone on long long before star ratings were created.

What was the reason for success with championship football teams before star ratings were created?

Did u not see the link??? Can u possibly argue with its results. Do u need a shrink for denial issues? Dang man, what other statistics must u see. Here it is again. look at it man...

BCS 4 & 5 Star Breakdowns

I think LV or someone figured that Rivals will probably add more than 60 more 4-5* players... hopefully he'll read and correct this if it is wrong.

Having watched this for a few years now, it is very likely that 10-20% of the guys currently 4* will move down as other guys emerge that are deemed more deserving. Happened to Preston Bailey a few years ago.

LV posted that Rivals will actually promote about 150 more players. Roughly 200 guys who aren't 4-5* right now will be when they sign.

because character wins games.

Yeah, Those Canes from the 80's and early 90's were loaded with character, LOL... Florida State has always had pillars of the community as well....

Don't get p#$!%d, I'm just kidding....GBO

Quality QB play, Solid Line play, a great kicking game and special playmakers---Thats what wins games PA Vol

BCS 4 & 5 Star Breakdowns

When Tn starts producing as many blue chip recruits as FL, TX, or CA then UT can use their formula. Since it doesn't right now... I think Dooley's novel approach is worthy of a try. He's looking for kids with talent but room for development. He's also looking for kids with good grades and character so he can keep them around long enough to reach their potential.

UT isn't going to consistently go into the backyards of the schools in these high talent states and get the best players there. If you can't get it done that way... you either give up or else try something different.

its just a little depressing going from the BEST football players in the country to 3 star kids we would have not even sniffed at last year....

By the middle of the football season, we will be in on a lot more players. Especially if CDD and co. meet some needs before the season starts... Some of the players that have committed already will receive 4th stars too, thus appeasing some of the star-addicts

what if half of these 3* turns out to be 4* will that be good enough for most people ? or will you be disappointed because they didnt go from 3 to 5*

A lot of people believe our recruiting class is so far behind right now, but if we get Martin, Downs, and Crowder to commit we EASILY break into the top 25 classes so far.. Probably within the top 15-20 and it is July. Relaxing a little bit would do a lot for some people.

All this "star" talk drives me INSANE. Does it drive anyone else crazy? In my opinion it is the biggest waste of time and discussion. How many 5 star kigs flopped? How many 2 and 3 star kids rise to the top. I think this Croweder kid looks great. Who gives a damn about his "star" power. Remember Bubba Miller? Also, was expected to be marginally good at best and also turned down Vandy for us. I remember one year at Dudley some local jokal Vandy turd of a fan was screaming at Bubba Miller, he wasn't smart enough for Vandy. Anyway Bubba was one of my favorites and went to play NFL (Eagles). All that blocking for #25. I'm ranting hear but my wish is that we would all collectively stop talking about all this "star" crap and trust just a little bit. Who cares what Rivals, Scout and ESPN rate their players? Its not like they go watch and evaluate in person. They have connections with certain coaches and camps, that's all. You knowledge and mine are probably just as credible. I know this topic comes up daily and another wish of mine is to take down any future posting about a kids "star" rating immediately.
