It's life man. Ups and downs. I was there when we started 0-6. I was there in '98. And what was built started crumbling ahwile ago.
No choice but to roll with it, or go somewhere else, imo.

If TN football is such a big priority that you can't take it, your priorities are jacked up.

If you just want to sit by and watch it crumble I would say that your priorities are jacked up and I can't believe anyone here listens to you.

I would wait to talk crumbling until the guy doesn't win championships in a few years. He has at every other job, there is no indication at all he will not do the same here.

you couldn't be more wrong. I tried to tell you guys for 10 threads, but you wouldn't listen.
This is the last time I will tell you again. You are dead wrong about him being close to signing a contract, just as the others were dead wrong saying it was a done deal with signed mou's and other bull**** that never happened.

You are right. It would have been worthless for him to sign a contract without three other signatures on it.

That Does NOT mean that he did not want to sign a contract.

I'd love to know how you're so sure. I'm telling you, the TFP doesn't report stuff they don't have confirmed. Both sides of my family has lived in Chattanooga for 3 generations, is very connected in the school and political arena, and I probably know more about the validity of the TFP than anyone on this board. You have no idea.

Call it BS.. But that is simply being very small minded.

I appreciate your optimism. I hope he Does because he seems like a very nice man.

But I did not bring up crumbling. Spartacavolus did.

Wasted storage bytes. You will never convince some of these guys.

He was ours for the taking and Hart put sand in the gears. Note: sarcasm.

Listen closely to what he is saying. It is propaganda. I think he is on the clock.

Newspapers are dying. Printing make believe sold papers. People outside of a few old people in Chattanooga paid attention to the fish wrap for a few days.

Yep. I'm going to take my boys to the games next year and see what happens.

wtf are you going to do about it? Besides whine, that is. Please. Let us all know that you aren't going to sit and "watch it crumble". Tell us how you are going to help.

And don't listen to me if you'd rather not. Get your info from the gruden forum. Better yet, don't ask me a question, if you don't want the answer, and especially if you don't know why you should listen to me in the first place.

the top agents in the country talk often and know what's happening on a daily basis. That's how I know, and knew, since the Ms St game. I could care less about the validity of a newspaper that types a story with unnamed sources.
I will call it BS. And small minded is still riding the gruden train the day we sign a new coach, by the way.

You blindly follow grudenites and blindly follow a reporter with unnamed sources because you are a lifelong nooga. At least you are loyal.

Dude, we have a new coach. I'm not blindly following anyone. Believe what you want though

and I'm truly glad we got him over gundy and Strong.

No your not. You know he wasnt even on our long list, much less the short one. Just shut up and stop trying to hide the issues. Its good for people who buy tix and merchandise and support this team to request an explanation on why an experienced reputable reporter would stake his reputation on something that didnt happen. We should also know why strong decide to decline at the last minute too. He was our cat in the bag. Why would bielema leave wisconsin for arky but strong wont leave UL for tennessee. Somethings amiss.

Well, the testosterone in this thread might be clouding any kind of rational discussion, but I think it's valid to wonder what the heck happened in the last week. I really don't believe anyone can rationally say that Gruden wasn't interested - how interested or how close a deal was might be a matter of debate. Something changed about the time of the Hargis article on November 30th - the whole interview process ramped up - or at least the leakage of names etc. - we barely heard a peep since Dooley was fired & then names/rejections were flying all over the place. I don't understand why no one seems at all stunned that a multimillion dollar business hires a CEO/President, whatever the Head Coach position would equate to - after one interview conducted between the hours of 10 pm & 2 am! Am I the only one who finds this beyond bizarre?!
I'm not saying I won't support Jones or the football team, but UT is basically right back where we were 3 years ago - wishing & hoping that this hire works & we can claw our way back on to the ESPN scroll by being ranked, not by being drubbed by SEC teams that are ranked FAR above us. Unfortunately, I'm a 55 year old woman, who happens to love the Vols passionately, the thought of another (+/-) 5-year rebuilding period is depressing.

The only reason anyone wouldn't ask questions about this fiasco is that they are afraid of what they would learn. This whole interviewing process and the media around it was rough.....at best. There is a ray of hope though. At least Butch Jones is probably the smartest one of the whole bunch. he knew what was best and what he wanted. So he did what it took ti get it.

Good post. Agree totally. Sometimes a woman can say the same thing much better than a man.

That Gruden was in deep negotiations with TN is now a matter of public record. The TFP article in particular confirmed as much, the facts of which have never been disputed by anyone involved on either side.

What intrigues me is the discrepancy between what Hart said in the presser and what Lamonte said. Hart said he reached out "early on" to Gruden's agent and was told there was no interest so he moved on. Lamont in his remarks to KNS on 11/30 said he talked to hart one time that morning and he made it sound like the conversation lasted 30 secs. Doesn't sound like hart tried very hard. I don't really think 11/30 is early on either

The truth is very few people know what happened in this search. There are plenty of rumors that were passed off as facts - or close to sure things, but the fact is very few people here know exactly what happened.

The AD kept a very tight lid on the search process. And that's a good thing in my opinion. But we don't know who was interviewed when and on what day. I seriously doubt a hire was made after one late night interview. It's probably not correct info.

There are a few things we can all be certain of:

1- This hire is important to AD Hart's reputation, and he would have no reason to blow a good hire just to spite some boosters

2- He has a lot more to think about than just getting a big name. He has to balance a budget, judge that person's chance of success, and make sure that the hire is a good fit with the UT athletics program as a whole

3- Most of the animosity you are seeing here today is the fallout from the Jones hire...mostly from people who were convinced that Gruden would be the next head coach at UT

I suppose someday we'll have more information on how the search progressed, but I doubt there is any real juicy info there. Just a program that has fallen on hard times trying to find a new leader.

Calm down cletus.
I am glad he is here vs gundy and strong because he wants to be here and they don't. and he is every bit of the coach that they are, imo. I don't care what your list looked like. I would have been happy with a couple others too, but never endorsed Gundy or Strong, so don't try and tell me my thoughts.

And Strong bailed the same reason that others won't touch it. There is a decent chance it's career suicide and the HC will be looking for a job in 3 years. If you are Strong, a multimillionaire, and a long, long contract with security as a D1 HC and don't have to compete against the best coaches and players, while being at a recruiting disadvantage, it's not surprising he turned it down.

This is exactly my point. I want to know more about our AD and what happened with the "deal".

Supposedly there was more to this than we know with the AD being the issue. THIS is what I want to know. I could care a less about Gruden at this point, I want to know more about our AD and whether or not he was the issue behind the non-hire.

That's all.

Enquiring minds want to know.

It wasnt my list dipsh*t. It was the list. You know, the coaches we wanted. Then it became the coaches we could actually get. Then it became wtf are we gonna do? And I dont recall anybody asking who you endorse. Who cares who you endorse. We want to know some details of the search. That shouldnt be a problem at all.
