Still have faith in Cuonzo Martin?

You poster's(like the one above) do understand that Tennessee's opponents had more assist, more blocks, more steals, less turnovers and shot a better 3pt and FT% right? Tennessee had a better FG% and more rebounds. That's it! Hell, Tennessee was lucky to win as many games as they did last year if you just go off season stats.

There's just some poster's that will not allow you to be critical about CCM at all. It will eventually be spun in a Pearl vs. CCM arguement. Every thread usually is.

FG. 3pt. FT. Reb. Assist. TO. Blocks. Steals. Points Avg.
Tennessee- 43. 31.6. 69. 36.9. 354. 425!! 130. 140!! 66.3
Opponents- 41.8. 31.9. 72.7. 31.5. 367. 368. 132. 209!! 63.4

The assist to turnover ratio and the steals difference is horrible.

We know a show cause is for a certain amount of time and a three year show cause is small compared to most of them. Once it is over then it is over, it's gone.

Tell us what kind of jobs that coaches have gotten after getting a show cause. Then tell us the last time a coach got a show cause and came back to that same school. Again, you're like the average UT hoops fan that doesn't have a damn clue how a show cause works.

If we can't be a better ball handling team than we've been in the last 2 years then it doesn't matter what kind of offense/defense we run. We'll be lucky to get into the tourney and maybe win one or two games.

While Golden isn't the best ball handler around, it's telling that he was our best ball handler. We get Maymon back so that should help some. It's pathetic though that I can watch lower tier conferences like the Sun Belt, OVC, Atlantic Sun and the like and find guys that can handle the ball better than anyone we've got. Until they find some better ball handlers, we'll be hard pressed to do very much.

Just my opinion, but I believe the majority of our offensive and defensive shortcomings stem from having a talent deficiency.

I know some will say it's just another excuse, but I'm sorry, any team that gives 20+ minutes a game to Skylar McBee has a weak roster. Yes, we had McRae, Golden & Stokes. But we had guys like Hall, McBee, Chevious, Reece, Yemi playing more minutes than they should be if you expect to have a tournament quality team.

Some of that is on Martin because I believe he made some reaches in his 2nd class. Some of it is on Pearl for getting himself axed and leaving us w/ 7 scholarship players. Some of it is due to Maymon's injury.

However, the 2013-14 season should give us a look at what Martin can do with an actual roster. Maymon is back and we bring in Hubbs, Thompson and Davis. If we can find us a point guard we will be set.

Well Bozeman got a job coaching at Morgan State. Pearl will be a first to return to the same job. Do you want to donate to the parade fund we are collecting.:)

I brought this up last year, sure our top 2 or 3 are talented, but the bottom of our rotation was weak. I started a thread last year in which I looked at the recruiting rankings o all guys getting double digit minutes on all the teams in the SEC...Tennessee ranked 7th as far as their rotations talent. As you said, this year should be much better.

You guys ever heard of player development?
Ball handling can be improved with proper instruction.
From reading comments from our players, CM's idea of development is pointing out deficiencies and telling the guys to work on it in the off season.
I keep hinting at Kevin Whitted (TN alum).
Would probably jump at a chance to help out a couple of seasons at his Alma.

Are you saying Martin hasn't developed players? McRae Stokes Maymon Trae have improved significantly under Martin.

Think they've improved in spite of Martin and staff.
When you keep seeing the same mistakes in fundamentals over and over, it doesn't add up to development.
When a coach tells his big, if team mates don't give you the ball, go get it off the glass, that's not development.
I still have visions of Maymon screaming for it and being ignored. didn't change early this season.

Just can't give credit anywhere, but give him all the blame.

Maybe I'm a bobby knight clone.
When asked about the Fab 5, he always answers, 'They never won anything.'
I'll give credit when credit is due.

Martin just isn't a very smart guy all-around. He doesn't understand how to coach or motivate or recruit. The players don't really like him, he's not very good at building relationships with players or recruits. The team isn't close, they don't play together well, they don't care about each other. Martin just isn't the guy. I know people hate to here this stuff because the guy is black so he must be a great recruiter and of course the players like a black former player...

Color has nothing to do with it.
The rap on Martin when he came here was, his teams didn't win when they HAD TO.
He proved that hasn't changed this season.

Name the coach that has gotten a show cause that u would want to hire if he didn't have a show cause.....it's not a very good list

Stokes offensive rebounding has really picked up since he figured out that was the only way he's going to get the ball.
Don't believe me, check his game by game.

To be honest with you cal, Stokes's post up game hasn't quite evolved the way I thought it should. While we have to get the ball inside, throwing it into Stokes was often a bad offensive possession unless he was able to get his own offensive rebound. He showed very, very limited low post moves and ability to finish in the post. I hope that changes this year. Stokes shot 53% last year, which is not close to acceptable for a guy that didn't take a shot outside the lane. He's got to improve down there.
