Stokes dropping out?

If he was going to go overseas anyways, why stay another year? Go make your money while you work on your game.

It'd be a different story had he made an Euro team, but he's playing in Israel! It's not the euro league. He's not making huge amounts of money. Sure, he makes 200,000 dollars, and he's also 2000 miles away from the States.

I have nothing against Hopson. I have a problem when people on here truly think he's going to play in the NBA come next year. You guys are clueless. I grew up watching UT from the Green days to the O'Neil days, and there's about 10 plus guys who never made it to the league that are head over heals better then Hopson. I don't care if he stayed or not, but it was in his best interest to stay regardless of people's arguments. The Israel league was a worst case scenario for Hopson, and then he soon realized his game wasn't good enough to play anywhere else.

I have watched since before then as well......name the ten guys

Spain has gone down a lot over the years. A lot of NBA players have shown interest in retiring over in France just to play a season or two. Kobe is one of them, but it will never happen.

Spain has delivered Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, Rudy Fernandez, Ricky Rubio, Juan Carlos Navarro, and Jose Calderon; all of whom came from the Spanish pro circuit.

If Spain has gone downhill, its been VERY recent.

For this team right now? Yea. You clearly don't watch UT basketball if you rather have Hopson then MAaze for the team we have right now.

Yeah I don't watch you got me. I never said for this current team I'm just talking in general.

He did ruin his chance. He left when everyone told him he'd never get drafted. For some reason he thought he was 1st round talent. Probably because of people like yourself who think it's wonderful to leave and just go overseas and play. Understand something, Hopson isn't playing in Europe. He's playing in Israel. A good league, but not anywhere close to NBA level. Had he stayed and worked on his dribbling and shooting, he could have had a better chance to play in a better overseas league. 300,000-500,000 dollars is chump changes to the better players that play in Europe who make 7 digits a year.

Again, that implies that if he left a year later, his position re: the NBA would be different, right?

Lofton, Slay, Tony Harris, Yarbrough, J. Smith, Chism, McFadden, Haislip, Higgins, Wharton.

Seriously? Haislip and Yarbrough played in the NBA. Haislip was a first rd lottery pick.

Higgins or McFadgon over Hopson?!?!? Whoa.

I'd still take Maze man. I'm not trying to getting in a pissing contest here with you, but Maze is very good. I'd build around him before I built around Hopson. Hopson is to up and down to be relied on every game.

Yea, I know and they also didn't make it further proving my point that Hopson isn't going to make it if he is anything like the player he was two years ago.

Ok guys I'm sorry all you 4-5 guys have a man crush on Hopson. Don't let me tell you I told you so when he's back in Israel this time next year. At least I'll be man enough to say I was wrong if he's in the NBA, which I won't be. I wish Hopson the best, but he was no great player you guys make him seem to be.

I watched Maze play nobody is denying that he is good. You don't like Hopson it's been clear for the last 10 post.

LMAO at a fan on a message board knowing the best interests of a college basketball player. These aren't characters made for your entertainment, they are people... people with lives and interests and influences outside of basketball. Only he and his close family members know his true thought process in declaring.

And you act like $200k is some meager salary. True, it's not huge NBA money, but it's still 3-4 times the average salary in the US, and well above what even the most highly skilled (academically) college graduates make.

Your assertion that he "ruined his career" was flat out wrong.

I don't like saying Hopson is gods gift to Earth that's all. I have zero problems with Hopson, but he didn't become half the player he was capable of. Argue it all you want, but he had star potential just like Stokes does.

You specifically said "10 guys who didn't make it to the league."

The two I named not only made it, but were drafted. One was a lottery pick. The other started for the Nuggets for more than half his rookie season. So, how do they fit the parameters YOU created?

I'd also like to hear your justification for including Higgins and McFadgon as players you woukd take over Hopson.

Dude fix your panties man, and grow up

Higgins was the best player on his team with Slay. He was a NBA guard IMO. McFaddon was one of the best shooters in the last 20 years we have had. I really thought he'd make a D-league team, and probably would have if Pearl had been able to coach him. Both Harris and McFaddon got overlooked because UT was irreverent at the time.

I need to grow up? You're the one seemingly blasting a guy for making the "wrong" life altering decision... a decision that led to him making more money than most of us could even imagine.

Nice job defending you "argument" btw. :lolabove:

Isnt Isreal considered part of the Euro Leagues.....I also read that their salaries are comparable but can be more/less depending on the players talent level.

I really don't want in a five way argument with you guys about Hopson. I have nothing against Hopson, but if you guys think he's a special player so be it. I do not. Either get over it or you can ignore me.

It is but it's really confusing how it is done. There are different levels and Israel is getting better, but the really good players usually go to Spain and France. France has passed Spain because all the Spain players have went to the NBA.
